The Marrakech region

Marrakech has Berber rather than Arab origins. Early travellers called it 'Morocco City' a lively marketplace where southern tribesmen and Berber villagers brought their goods, spent money and found entertainment. A City of great beauty. Its square "Djemaa el Fna" an open air theatre of musicians, acrobats, snake charmers, storytellers, dentists and much much more.

Marrakech City / Medina area

There arer so many places to visit you will be spoilt for choice. My must see list would include the Bahia Palace a 19th Century Politicians Mansion - stunning architecture , The Koutoubia Mosque - a perfect minaret, Marjorelle Gardens - Lily ponds, cacti, stunning pavillion and art museum, Marrakech Museum - Moroccan Art/Sculpture and Ben Youssef Medersa - a Koranic School - sublime. All of these site are either a short walk or petit taxi ride from the Riad. Lots of Festivals all the time but you might like to catch: 2007 June 07 - 2 week Festival National des Arts - Artists from all over the Globe exhibit, some real cutting edge installtions etc. Oct - Film Festival Marrakech (7th year) and if you start training now maybe you could compete in the 2008 Marrakech Marathon in Jan.

The riad is very light and airy and has a fountain in the patio area where guests can have breakfast or tea, read a book or just listen to the sounds of the city. There are beautiful paintings of Morocco throughout the interior and traditional hand painted doors to all rooms. The ceiling of the large Salon is handpainted and morena glass doors grace the entrace. The furniture has been locally sourced and its feels like a real Moroccan home with all the comforts visitors expect. The Red Salon is great for relaxing , .watching TV or a DVD. There is a fully equipped kitchen.

Further details outdoors:
Beautiful Patio area on the ground floor with fountain. On the 2nd Floor is the Terrace a great sun trap with views of the Atlas Mountains and 2 Storks who nest in the tower of a nearby mosque and are a delight to watch. The Terrace has a large dining area/sun loungers/umbrellas and a variety of trees and plants.

There is a cook who can make anything you care to eat - if you prefer to have lunch or dinner in the Riad or perhaps have a picnic prepared - you only have to ask and it can be arranged.
