Riad Hugo
About the home
This spacious and very comfortable Riad is set in an imposing position in the Kasbah of Marrakech, which was the stronghold attached to the Sultan's palace to house his courtiers. The house is very close to the 12th century Kasbah Mosque, the famous and beautiful Saadian Tombs, and the El Badii Palace dating from 1578, which is when the house was probably built. A short walk takes you to all the sights of this exotic city including the amazing Place Djemaa el Fna with its snake charmers, story tellers, and acrobats.
The Kasbah area is alive with streetmarkets, children playing, artisans and Moroccans going about their daily life. Marrakech also offers World class restaurants and nightlife, as well as being close to the Atlas Mountains. The Riad has been returned to its former splendour and now offers spacious accommodation that can only be rented as a whole, providing a beautiful private space for a family holiday, or a group of friends wishing to spend time in a traditional Moroccan atmosphere, but with the comforts of 21st century living.

Further details indoors:
A few minutes from the busy square in front of the Kasbah Mosque, the winding narrow streets cut through the ancient palace walls, bringing you to the imposing facade of Riad Hugo. A gently splashing fountain welcomes you into the entance hall which leads onto the open courtyard with heated pool. There are two en-suite bedrooms on the ground floor, as well as a kitchen from which the cook produces the most exquisite Moroccan food. The grand staircase with its intricate Moroccan plasterwork ceiling, leads to a further double and a bedroom with three single beds, each with en-suite facilities. Here there is also a stunning and exotic traditional salon, which recreates the atmosphere of a palace harem. It has air-conditioning for summer and a zelige fireplace for winter evenings. There is a TV with numerous European and UK channels and DVD player as well as a hifi, a small selection of DVDs and CDs. A further flight of stairs leads to the terrace salon with its huge sofas, dining area and direct access to the roof terrace. Here you can dine or sunbathe with a view of the Atlas Mountains and storks flying over the Badii Palace.
Further details outdoors:
The ground floor courtyard is planted with Banana trees and palms that hang over the private heated pool, there is a dining table ideal for breakfast on hot summer days. On the first floor all the rooms lead off of the open balcony and further stairs lead to the terrace salon that opens through french doors to the terrace. A dining table provides space for breakfast in the sun or a moon lit dinner while the sounds of life in the Kasbah drift up on the breeze from the alleys below.
The view from the terrace is quite amazing and includes the kasbah Mosque, Badii Palace, Saadien Tombs, the roof tops of the Kings palace and glimpses of the Koutoubia mosque with the stunning snow capped Atlas Mountains in the distance.
With sunbeds for the sun worshipers and a shower to cool you down, this is the ideal place to relax, a real antidote to the bustle of the city just outside your door.
Further details
The house is ideal for a family holiday but please note that the pool is unattended and children should be supervised at all times.
Though we welcome smokers we ask guest only to smoke in the open areas, courtyard and roof terrace. We do not permit smoking in any enclosed rooms including bedrooms.

The Marrakech / Essaouira / Marrakech Region region
This exotic city is quite spellbinding, at first a little overwhelming but soon you relax into a different and very welcoming culture. Marrakech is as much an experience as a place, offering the oportunity to acquire memories that will last a lifetime. From the tiny streets and souks of the Old Medina, hardly changed since medieval times, to the international standard restaurants and nightlife. 4x4 safaris into the Atlas Mountains, car trips to the Ourika Valley, the coast at Essaouira or the waterfalls at Cascade D'Ouzoud, golf, skiing, hot air ballooning over the city or just sitting in the square with a mint tea and watching life go by, not to mention the shopping opportunities of the souk; there is something here for everyone and every day is an adventure.
The Marrakech City / Medina area
Riad Hugo is perfectly positioned to provide a real taste of life in the Kasbah area of the Medina. A fasinating place full of life and activity in the highly desirable south of the Medina. Here atisans, craftshops and street markets all compete for your attention and something new waits around every corner. With several of the major attractions on your doorstep and the rest only a short walk. A stay at this riad will reward you with an experience of Marrakech that could be so easily overlooked during a stay at a hotel.

With constantly improving travel links with the UK there are several airlines to choose from. Royal Air Maroc offer convenient flight times and ever decreasing costs. The real bargains can be had from Thomsonfly, Ryanair and Easyjet though this may require a very early start but on the upside you get the whole of your first day in Marrakech.
All of the major car hire companies are represented at the rapidly developing airport but unless you are heading further afield the 10 to 15 minute taxi ride to the city centre is far easier. Driving in Marrakech would require a certain amount of courage and a lot of luck. It is best left to the experienced.

it was absolutely fantastic! What a superb experience, the narrow dark streets where you can easily find yourself lost, but can always rely on the very friendly locals. Left, right, right again, and then this door…like entering a palace. Very tasteful decorations, beautiful handmade tiles and wood carvings, a kind of a tropic atmosphere….Breakfast on the roof terrace, with lovely weather every day. Very kind staff. We once had a beautiful candlelit dinner cooked for us by one of the staff...it was excellent. Very comfortable beds in airconditioned rooms. We stayed with 4 adults, 4 children. Superb stay! |

"Lovely house, great spot, particularly comfortable, and your staff looked
after us beautifully. And we were fed like Kings - even cancelling all our
carefully researched restaurant reservations in favour of eating chez nous."
"We really did have a great time; Riad Hugo's a fantastic house in a truly superb location. We couldn't believe how the house was so quiet and peaceful yet it's just a few minutes walk from the noise and bustle of the little market "
