Further details indoors:
The door to the house opens from the narrowest of streets into the hallway, which in turn leads through to the courtyard where a mosaic fountain trickles into the plunge pool. From this courtyard there is access to one of the bedrooms as well as a bathroom with bath and separate shower; there is another shower room and a kitchen that is intended for the use of the house keeper.
The first floor of Dar Soulahfa offers the majority of the living space with dining and sitting areas that open through traditional arches onto a balcony that overlooks the pool below. Two double bedrooms lead from the balcony, both share an en-suite shower room.
The salon on this level has been decorated to evoke the sultry opulence of a palace hareem with large lanterns creating subtle lighting and a rich mixture of colours and textures. Every effort has been made to ensure the interiors at Dar Soulahfa are as exotic as the city itself.
The salon has TV with numerous European and UK channels and DVD player, there is also a hifi and i-pod docking station. There is a small selection of DVDs and many CDs.
A further flight of stairs leads to the roof terrace.
Though the house is excellently positioned for access to the busy city you will be amazed at the contrast once inside the Riad, the peace and calm are instantly relaxing.
Further details outdoors:
The large roof terrace provides the ideal place to have breakfast where the dining table catches the morning sun. The hand painted Berber tent provides shade and further seating and there is plenty of space for private sunbathing. An external shower allows you to cool off as the temperature rises.
A moonlit dinner on the roof is a must with flickering candles and the distant drums and music carried on the breeze from the square. Better still, let Atika arrange for traditional musicians and make it a party.
Further details
Dar Soulahfa has been created to provide ideal family accommodation, also perfect for a small group and romantic enough for a couple. Many Riads in Marrakech are let by the room; Dar Soulahfa is only available for exclusive rental providing a private space without the need to worry about other guests.
The house has a staff of three, Atika our housekeeper and fantastic cook, Khadija the maid and Soulaimane the houseman. While we pay for the housekeeper and maid, it is asked that the guests pay the houseman directly at 100 Dirhams (£6) per day
The kitchen has been set up for the use of the housekeeper who is happy to assist with the preperation of children's' meals.
Though we welcome smokers we ask that guests only smoke in the open areas, first floor loggia and roof terrace. We do not permit smoking in any enclosed rooms including bedrooms.

The Marrakech / Essaouira / Marrakech Region region
Marrakech is as much an experience as a place, offering the oportunity to acquire memories that will last a lifetime. From the tiny streets and souks of the Old Medina, hardly changed since medieval times, to the international standard restaurants and nightlife. 4x4 safaris into the Atlas Mountains, car trips to the Ourika Valley, the coast at Essaouira or the waterfalls at Cascade D'Ouzoud, golf, skiing, hot air bollooning over the city or just sitting in the square with a mint tea and watching life go by, not to mention the shopping opportunities of the souk; there is something here for everyone.
The Marrakech City / Medina area
Dar Soulahfa is tucked away along tiny streets. A walk to the square, though only a few minutes, is packed with intrigue and fascination. Very near to the house is the Dar Si Said Museum and the Bahia Palace, but all the sights are within easy access. The streets are alive with traders, artisans, children and Moroccans going about their life. This is a real chance to immerse yourself in a very different culture. A stay at Dar Soulahfa will provide so much more than any hotel or resort.

A lovely house with excellent friendly staff. Beautifully restored riad with total privacy centrally located, yet in a quiet backstreet near all the sights. We took 3 kids (9,6 and 2 years) and my 83 year old mother in law. After the madness of the souks and negotiating donkeys and motorbikes it was great to step into this tranquil oasis and relax. We had dinner on 2 days and lunch on another 2 days cooked by Atiqa and Khadija, all of which were superb quality, genuinely authentic and generous portions. Fouad organized our taxis and excursions, which given our party saved me negotiating everything with kids in tow. If you are on a budget be careful about his (or anyone else's) recommendations for where to eat / buy souvenirs, as they are likely to be towards the higher end of the scale. The staff live off-site, so you have the place to yourself, except obviously if you are having meals prepared. Recommended. |

"Many people were surprised when I told them we had rented a whole Riad for ourselves, so I wasn't sure what to expect but I was completely overwhelmed from the second we stepped through the door"
"We had a wonderful stay at your riad last week. It is not only a beautiful house but the location is fantastic as well. We went almost every day with the kids to the souk and on horse and carriage rides. The most wonderful aspect of the trip however was without a doubt Atika and her cooking. WOW! We ate like kings and queens... Soulaimane was very helpful and nice and took us on an excursion to the Atlas mountains. We really enjoyed ourselves.Thank you so much for everything."
