The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
Icmeler was once a small farming village but has developed into a hot spot for tourists, although it has kept the charm and character that the first tourists found so attractive. Where Aegean meets the Med Situated on a bay, backed by rugged pine-clad mountains sloping down to beaches and clear blue sea, Icmeler is one of the most attractive resorts in Turkey, ideal for water sports and boat trips. It makes an excellent starting point for a Gulet Cruise touring the Aegean coastline. Many tourists arriving in Icmeler for the first time find the resort irresistable and return year after year. The accommodation in Icmeler is of a good standard and there are many restaurants of high quality to choose from at inexpensive prices. The resort of Icmeler is a perfect size not too large but big enough to keep you interested. It is an ideal setting for families and couples and those who wish to relax and get to know the locals. In the heat of the day Icmeler is quiet when everyone is lapping up the sunshine on the beach or poolside or perhaps on a day tour exploring the wonderful countryside, culture and history. By night it comes alive with the bustle from restaurants and the canal side stalls selling their fancy goods and trinkets. Temperatures range from 25C - 48C all year round, can get very humid in July & August
Marmaris / Icmeler area
With plenty of activities for every age group. Relax along the beach front with the safe waters of the bay at your feet, Turkish bath and massage after that hard day relaxing on the beach. Choice of water sports, water skiing, ringos, banana boat, jet skis or for the more adventurous para sailing, snorkelling, diving. Boat trips to the local islands, Dalyan and the famous Turtle Beach. Have a enthusiasic day at the water parks Explore the historic sites of Turkey or have fun on a jeep safari, white water rafting and horse riding through the green forestry. A great place for walking, cycling and fishing enthusiasts. Icmeler is well-supplied with restaurants of all sorts, but most visitors particularly enjoy local specialities like Guvec, a clay-pot casserole, or tasty kebabs, washed down with some Turkish wine or raki, the traditional aniseed spirit. Good choice for Turkish cuisine is the Turkish House in Turunc Road where the food is served up to the tune of traditional music. For good steaks a favourite is the Love Boat at the Devamli Hotel. For variety the menu at the Majestic Restaurant is a mix of Chinese, Indian and Italian. On Sundays the Kingsland Chinese Restaurant above the undercover market surprisingly serves up a top British lunch. Activities - Having a magnificent beach, Icmeler is primarily a sun, sea and sand holiday destination, and a wide variety of watersports are on offer at the resort hotels and along the sea front. Those who feel inclined to make excursions, however, will find plenty of interest. Favourites are boat trips to 'Cleopatra's Isle', the waterfalls of Pamukkale with their therapeutic spring waters, and the archaeological site of Ephesus.
Nightlife - Icmeler is not a clubbing resort, but there are plenty of pubs, which keep hopping with a lively atmosphere until the wee hours. The nightlife may be low key, but those who want something more frenetic have only to grab a dolmus taxi and ride a short distance to Marmaris, where the pace is hotter. Icmeler does have several nightclubs which provide for those who enjoy a dance, and some of the bars have discos, karaoke and live shows.
Shopping - Icmeler does have a central shopping mall, which is adequate for acquiring essentials and having a pleasant browse for souvenirs. There is a local market on Wednesdays where bargain hunters and hagglers can test their skills. Serious shoppers, though, would be better advised to take a short dolmus taxi ride into nearby Marmaris where it is possible to literally shop 'til you drop', especially in the fascinating covered bazaar of the old town.
