The Calabria region
Calabria is among the most charming and unspoilt regions of South Italy, with a combination of high mountains, extended forests, historical towns all surrounded by crystal clear seas. Calabria is an experience not to be missed. The Calabrian gastronomy is a great experience for its combination of traditional fresh products and inventive versatile dishes.
A new motorway runs west down the coast, the A3 linking with the A1 up into northern Italy. The road puts you within easy reach of resorts that are fun and lively in the summer, deserted in the winter. On the very toe of Italy, facing Sicily across the Strait of Messina, lies Reggio di Calabria. This is the provincial capital and the largest town in Calabria. There is a prettily restored seafront and promenade gazing at Messina and Sicily across the Strait. Drive round to the Ionian Coast during your Calabria vacation and the coastline gets more rugged. There are many Greek and Roman remains, and untouched beaches shelter beneath precipitous roads clinging to the scrubby mountainside.
Aspromonte - the southernmost tip of Italy's peninsula, and with spectacular mountain walking and scenery.
Cosenza - one of the few big towns (and it's not that big) in Calabria. A pretty and charming old quarter, and handy for the nearby Sila mountains, with their walking and winter sports.
Marina di Caulonia
Situated in the beautiful coastal town of Marina di Caulonia. Perfectly located in a pretty town full of traditional Italian cafes, bars and restaurants, one of the finest beaches on the Ionian coast and a relaxed, peaceful lifestyle with everything you need right on your doorstep.
Marina di Caulonia is a lovely area with beautiful beaches where you can relax in the sun or enjoy various water sports in its pristine waters.
The local beach is 10-15 minute walk from the apartment and the activities available vary depending on the time of year you are visiting. In the summer months (end July and throughout August) you will find a variety of beach bars, restaurants, water sports and plenty of sun loungers to hire. Out of season you can enjoy sunbathing in warm sun with the whole beach practically to yourselves. The local beach offers a mix of shale and soft sandy beaches. Just pick your preferred spot and relax.
The apartment is approximately 60-90 minutes drive from Lamezia airport. A train station is available in the town centre and runs the full length of the beautiful coastline. Whilst you can enjoy the apartment and area without a carnhowever we would recommend hiring a car to appreciate the beautiful towns, beaches, areas of historical interest and National Parks.
Feudo Montalto Golf Club is situated in Limbadi which is approximately a 45 minute drive from the apartment.
Skiing Gambarie d'Aspromonte – (approx 45-50 minute drive from the apartment) offers a unique opportunity, standing on a beach and on a ski slope within the same hour. This is a small ski resort with 4 ski lifts (2 chair lifts, 2 surface lifts) and it does boast a very impressive 670 metres (2198 feet) of vertical descent. Gambarie in Aspromonte has 5 pistes.

una casa veramente comoda, nuova e carina. Il mare dista a 5 minuti d'auto ed è di ciottolini ma nelle vicinanze c'è anche roccella jonica che invece ha la sabbia. Mare bellissimo, serate … More

"Rustic charm, friendly, good food, feels the real Italian deal. Developing area."
Situated on the East side of the toe of Italy, surrounded by mountains, not far from the sea, Collinetta village has genuine rustic charm with warm friendly locals and good, simple but very tasty Italian food. There is a lot to like about this village.
The apartment is clean and modern with a balcony overlooking the swimming pool. The beach is a 15-20 min walk or a five minute drive. The nearest beach is a bit pebbly but there are plenty of sandy beaches a short distance away. There are only a few bars next to the local beach but there are some very nice restaurants along the beach front. The area is a developing tourist destination and has a gentle tourist trade and therefore can be quiet most of the year which may appeal to some but not others. However, there are no heavy construction works and none over the main holiday season.
There are towns to visit, nature reserves, medieval castles and monasteries perched high in mountain tops, there is even a monastery in a cave!
If you like quiet, rustic charm in a country known for it's history and good food. This holiday is for you.
Thank you for you kind and honest review. I think you have summarised the area very well. Just one thing to note for anyone wanting to stay in the peak season (August) the place does become extremely busy and the change in the area is quite incredible. Many temporary bars, clubs and restaurants set up along the beach creating a very different vibe. So rustic charm at any time other than August when the height of the holiday seasons brings hundreds of holiday makers to enjoy the beautiful beaches and sea.
