Caulonia Marina is set on the Ionian Sea front....inland are the historic old towns of Caulonia and San Nicola. This area of Calabria is relatively untouched by tourists offering a unique authenticity to your Italian holiday, and it is rich in traditional Italian culture that is particular to this part of southern Italy. You will find that the local people are friendly, generous, welcoming, and a pleasure to be associated with.
With its many small bars and restaurants this charming coastal town is an ideal location for an evening of relaxation and entertainment. The restaurants offer local food and wine that is varied, traditional, and excellent. In particular the traditional (freshly caught), Italian seafood dishes are superb, but there is a great variety of food and all the meals and drinks are great value for money. The main Caulonia Marina square or piazza has recently been re-furbished and here you may visit the restaurants, bars and shops and enjoy the superb variety of local food and wines. The weekly Saturday morning open market is a great place to obtain fresh local produce and other preserved foods as it It has a wide range of local food produce fashion/clothes at discount prices.

Marina di Caulonia
Nearby Attractions: From Caulonia Marina you can easily reach a number of popular destinations which will add to the experience of your holiday. The town has good transport links and is on a rail line going south to Reggio Di Calabria and northwards towards Catanzaro. The Federico bus service also goes through the town with the local fare approx €1 per journey.
To make the most of your holiday it is advisable to hire a car and explore the areas valleys and mountain villages, where you will discover a culture seemingly untouched by recent centuries such as the foothills of the Aspromonte, Bivongi, Stila, Monasterace and Mammola. Just over an hours drive away is the capital city of Reggio Di Calabria, and from there you can catch a ferry to spend some time in Sicily.
An interesting local visit is the old town Caulonia Superiore.....a 10 minute drive into the hills....here you can wander through the narrow cobbled streets and medieval piazzas and admire some of its numerous old churches, as well as amazing views, and here they also have a Saturday morning market.
Some other nearby towns to visit are listed below: Coastal destinations to visit all the way down to Reggio calabria and the ferry over to Sicily including nearby.
The next little coastal town encountered as you travel along the coast in the direction of Reggio Calabria. This small town has a nice little square / town centre where you can sit outside bars to eat and drink, and good shopping is available. It is also has a train station and is only a short drive away.
GIOIOSA JONICA MARINA
The second small town along the coast in the direction of Reggio Calabria, the actual town of Gioiosa Jonica is set back inland with Gioiosa Marina being on the sea front. Again a different selection of shops, restaurants, and bars are waiting to be explored here.
Siderno is another 20 minutes or so further along the coast and has a selection of larger shops such as Brico (like B&Q), and a really great value supermarket called IPERSPAR G.A.M - great for stocking up on food and wine for example ie: Good bottle of white or red wine under 2 euro, need I say more..... Also the supermarket close to Res' Amusa is also very good value, but try both and compare!
There are many festivals throughout the year, particulary the famous Tarantella Dance; neighbouring towns also host festivals, including the week long jazz festival in Roccella, and big carnival in Siderno.
