Home description
The apartment is on the ground floor of a two apartment block on the edge of the resort, with views into the tropical rainforest. It has 2 double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, an extremely spacious open plan living/ dining room with kitchen area and a separate well equipped utility room.
Panoramic decking balconies surround the property on three sides; patio doors in the living/dining room and bedrooms fold back to let the outside in, giving stunning views of the forest and the tropical gardens. Sit in the private plunge pool and enjoy a cocktail while you watch the humming birds - this apartment is not overlooked at all and there is an incredible feeling of luxurious seclusion.
At the same time you are just a few steps away from the main hotel block, with its top class restaurant, informal bar dining and swimming pools.
Many of the apartments at Discovery are reached by long stairways built into the hillside - this apartment has stair-free access on one side and a small number of stairs on the other, making it one of the most accessible apartments for all ages.

The Castries region
Marigot Bay is a few miles South of the capital of St Lucia, Castries. Castries is the main commercial city of St Lucia, with harbour, docks and a Regional airport which services flights within the Caribbean region and connections to the USA.
Castries has several markets (food and crafts predominating) and also a duty free shopping mall at La Place Carenage and Pointe Seraphine, Castries.
Further North, the Rodney Bay area and its marina is a major tourist hotspot, with dining, shopping, beaches and hotels much in evidence.
St Lucia has more commercial and agricultural activity than many of the Caribbean islands, with banana growing for a major UK supermarket a large part of the activity. However, the island has retained a much of its tropical forest and has Unesco World Heritage site designation for the marine area of the Pitons. Local fishing is also strong, with a number of coastal villages dependent on it.
St Lucia has changed hands between the British and the French over the centuries, giving a rich history and culture including use of the Creole language among many inhabitants.
Marigot Bay area
From Marigot Bay, it is easy to pay a visit to Castries by taxi to look at the craft market and also visit the duty free shopping areas.
Snorkelling and beach trips trips are organised by Discovery to local bays in the hotel launch (complementary), and scuba diving (PADI certified and beginner including children) is available from several dive shops on the island - they will pick up and drop off at Discovery for you. Sea kayaking, island and eco tours are available, with rainforest zip wire flights and volcano visits an interesting option.
For spiritual refreshment, Discovery run yoga , Tai Chi and meditation sessions on site. DVDs can be borrowed from hotel reception for the family for just chilling out.
St Lucia hosts an annual international Jazz Festival - Dates for 2009 - May 1-10 2009.
How to get there
Virgin Atlantic and British Airways run direct non stop flights to St Lucia two or three times a week each. Flights go into Hewanorra International Airport in the South of the island, and taxi transfer to the resort is recommended (cost around US$70, travel time around 1 hour).
Air-conditioned taxis are available at the airport without pre booking. The taxi trip goes across the hills in the centre of the island and includes breathtaking views of the tropical rainforest - a great start to a stay on the island.

Further details outdoors: The private decked balconies surrounding the apartment are equipped with sun loungers and chairs/tables for outdoor drinks or dining. The balcony space provides a useful area for storing diving/snorkelling kit and wet or sandy beach stuff.
Just across from the apartment, the facilities of the main pool area include 2 swimming pools, one with swim up bar with a sports TV screen (useful for the cricket score!) and lounger areas with shaded infant pool alongside. The other pool is by the Hurricane Hole Bar overlooking the bay.
The Hurricane Hole serves informal lunches/dinners - perfect for a day by the pool or after a strenuous shopping trip. The main areas have scenic views across to the other side of Marigot Bay and through to the ocean; above the Bay, the hills are clothed in rainforest.
Just a short walk away along the jetty from the hotel is the Marina Village. This collection of pastel-coloured wooden buildings includes boutiques, a cafe and bar, banking facilities, a supermarket & bakery, and many other services. The best start to the day is to stroll down along the jetty to the bakery at the Marina Village for fresh croissants and cappuccino before a strenuous day by the pool, on the beach or in the ocean.
The hotel is ideal for romantic breaks, family holidays, diving holidays or keen hikers and walkers. There are many trips and activities on offer from the Resort, but the Discovery facilities are so good that once you are there you may be tempted to do very little except plan what is happening for dinner! There is a kids club available (10am to 4pm) at Discovery; check before booking to ensure that the club will be running on the dates required.
Discovery facilities include the Lapli Spa, fitness centre, shopping in the Marina Village, and a choice of bars and restaurants in Discovery and around the Bay for the ultimate holiday experience. The Boudreau restaurant in the main hotel has a good wine cellar. Dining around Marigot Bay is also a popular choice, with a local restaurant (Chateau Mygo) just beyond the marina serving pizzas, burgers and local seafood (easy walking distance for families along the jetty).
The Rainforest Hideaway across the bay provides a romantic dinner setting for couples, where you can watch fish cruising in the water under the restaurant in the underwater lighting. The hotel will help with water taxis to get you there and the restaurants will help to get you back; you can even go on an evening sea trip up to Rodney Bay in the North to eat out there!
Discovery Resort and the adjoining Marina sit in the beautiful tropical haven that is Marigot Bay. This is a wonderful place to relax and do very little, or use as a base for island tours, shopping trips, fishing, sailing, scuba diving (PADI certified and beginners including children)and snorkelling trips. You can even climb the world famous Piton mountains in the nearby National Park.
