The South East England / Kent region
Kent is known as the Garden of England and has some of the most beautiful and varied landscapes, from beaches to woodlands and from marshes to stately gardens. It also has some of the best attractions for visitors in England. From Cathedrals and castles which chart the history of the region to mini steam train experiences and with the many hop farms, orchards and beautiful Oast houses dotted around, there are plenty of things to see and do.
The climate in Kent is generally warmer and drier than much of England and summer days are longer enabling you to fit in the places you want to visit and to enjoy the lovely sandy beaches that surround the Kent coastline.
Margate / Cliftonville area
Margate is a place that many would remember with nostalgia. It is a traditional seaside town where many people came to get away from the cities and still do! In the summer months it is a bustling, busy town with people enjoying the coastal award beaches, water sport activities and the many amusement arcades. During autumn/winter there is still plenty to do. You can use this time - and the cooler weather - to explore the stunning Kent coastline with many small viking trails to take by walking or cycling-much of which are suitable for children and beginners and the trails are well signposted. Alternatively, there is the mysterious shell grotto with its beautiful mosaics that were discovered in 1835 and has lead to many theories of how it came to be there. The Winter Gardens-a building of historical importance to Margate, puts on many shows including comedy, children's fun, dance, wrestling and musical bands and of course, the christmas pantomime. You could also use your stay in Margate as a base to explore the Kent countryside and visit its huge range of attractions or you could spend a weekend partying in the many bars and nightclubs in Margate itself. Whatever you choose to do, whether its a fun, action packed day/night or you just want to relax and go for good food or shopping, you will find that there is something for everyone and a good time will be had by all.
