A great little flat with wonderful sea views. Well furnished and equipped, so all we had to do was relax, settle in and enjoy ourselves. In easy travelling distance for Dover (and Calais), Canterbury and various seaside resorts, as well as lots of historic houses and castles; vineyards and farm shops. A good base for days out. |

I stayed here for two weeks whilst working in Kent, having stayed the previous two weeks in the Galley apartment. The flat was lovely and had everything you could need, including a dishwasher - I don't even have one of those at home! The views across the Winter Gardens and sea were great and the sunsets in Margate are even better. You do get some noise towards the weekends from the Winter Gardens and the Casino, but nothing too loud and it ended at a reasonable time, which is more than can be said for the seagulls! Margate itself I feel has a real charm to it. Having never really been before, I had no real preconceptions to cloud my judgement. Admittedly there are areas which are deprived and could use a real amount of TLC (what seaside town doesn't?) however the Old Town is a real gem and the locals are obviously making a real effort to try and turn its fortunes around. If you like vintage and retro shops, then it is a great place to spend some time and money. The Turner Centre is also well worth a visit. The locals in the most part are also very friendly and happy - seemingly more so than in London and the Thames Valley! Margate is also in the grand scheme of things not far from the rest of East Kent, making Sandwich, Dover, Folkestone and Canterbury within easy reach and they're definitely well worth exploring too. I'd happily book this apartment again should I find myself in that part of the world again - business or pleasure. |
