The English weather might be a bit uncertain at times, but whatever it's doing, it's cosy and snug at Dreamland Lets, which is a family-friendly, comfortable self-catering holiday flat located within Arlington House, an iconic Brutalist tower right on the seafront in Margate with stunning panoramic views from the lounge, all three bedrooms and even the kitchen. Sleeps up to 8 people (three bedrooms plus double sofa-bed in lounge), with cot mattress available for a toddler. Watch the glorious sunsets from the comfort of your armchair: the famous painter JMW Turner remarked to the influential writer and art critic John Ruskin that “…the skies over Thanet are the loveliest in all Europe”. The unique quality of light in this part of Kent drew Turner back time and again, to stay in his guesthouse by the Harbour, now the site of the Turner Contemporary Gallery designed by the renowned architect David Chipperfield. Located just across the road from Margate Main Sands beach and within walking distance of all Margate's attractions including the Turner Contemporary, the mysterious Shell Grotto, the picturesque Old Town, the wonderfully preserved Tudor House and right next door to the historic Dreamland Amusement Park with its Scenic Railway and Cinema, just re-opened on June 19th 2015 after restoration by Red or Dead designer Wayne Hemingway.
Dreamland Lets self-catering holiday apartment is perfect for family holidays by the seaside, romantic breaks, friends get-aways or business trips. Explore the historic Kent countryside following in the footsteps of the Romans, Saxons, Vikings, Canterbury Pilgrims, Charles Dickens, Turner and TS Eliot, or just laze on the golden sand of Margate's wonderful beaches just across the road. The flat has the original 60s kitchen and bathroom, with old-style fittings including highline bath tub, there is a new electric shower over the bath tub. The furnishings have been geared towards lively young families so are on the practical end of the style spectrum. The two lifts are also original, so are old and can be a bit temperamental, they are serviced on a regular basis. You can see a virtual tour of the flat by searching for Dreamlandlets Margate video tour.
Everyone's been to Margate: the Romans, Saxons, Vikings, Charles Dickens, JMW Turner, TS Eliot, and more recently Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge who visited on one of her last official duties before the arrival of baby Princess Charlotte, sister to little Prince George. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll, Prime Minister David Cameron, poet Lemn Sissay, and Royal Academician artist Tracey Emin whose first major exhibition in her home town of Margate, 'She Lay Down Deep Beneath The Sea' premiered at Turner Contemporary have all been here recently, along with Boycie from 'Only Fools and Horses' off the telly. The Turner has a constantly changing programme of exhibitions and workshops for both children and adults, as well as a great gift shop and cafe, and is a gentle 10 minute stroll away at the end of Margate Main Sands which are just across the road from the flat.

On local bus and cycle routes with Margate railway station three minutes walk away for fast trains to London if you're planning a day trip to enjoy all the attractions of one of the world's most vibrant cities, just 90 minutes away by train, and to Ramsgate and Dover for ferries to mainland Europe. Historic Dreamland Amusement Park with its Scenic Railway original wooden roller coaster and Cinema is next door, re-opening this summer 2015 after extensive restoration (the flat is on the other side of the building so your holiday won't be affected by the renovation works), and Canterbury with its magnificent cathedral is a short distance away by road or rail. Margate has many restaurants and pubs, and we can personally recommend the cafe at the Shell Grotto for tea & cakes and the restaurant at the Turner Contemporary Gallery for fine dining, after which we suggest returning to the flat for a cosy nightcap while watching the magnificent sea views.
The rental rate is for the entire apartment, not per person. £100 per night, three night minimum rental during the year including school holidays and Bank holidays, except Christmas - New Year: rate is £150 per night, minimum one week rental. The Isle of Thanet region
Margate is a seaside town in the county of Kent which is also known as 'the Garden of England'. It's located in the district of Thanet in east Kent and lies 38 miles east-northeast of Maidstone, on the coast along the North Foreland, and contains the areas of Cliftonville, Garlinge, Palm Bay and Westbrook.
Margate experiences an oceanic climate similar to almost all of the United Kingdom, though its annual precipitation is lower than the national average.
For at least 250 years, the town has been a leading seaside resort in the UK, drawing Londoners to its long clean golden sand beaches, with Marine Terrace running along Margate Main Sands from the Lifeboat Memorial to the Harbour Arm where the new Turner Contemporary Gallery is located, built on the site of the artist JMW Turner's holiday home.
The village of Broadstairs, where Charles Dickens lived, is nearby, and there is a very pleasant Dickens - Turner walk clearly signposted between Margate and Broadstairs, taking you to some of the favourite haunts of these two giants of the artistic and literary world.

When places say they have a 'sea view' usually the best you can hope for is a glimpse of the beach if you stand on a chair and squint out of a particular window, but this enchanting apartment offers a glass balcony in every room (bar bathroom) and the Margate coast is utterly stunning - Turners paintings come alive! The pictures on the website are just too static to do it any justice at all. The flat has a lovely '60's type vibe and feels solid and comforting agaisnt the majestic vista, looking down on birds flying past and seeing the edge of the clouds on the sea. Everywhere was spotless. The kids loved their bunk beds and thoughtful toy box and videos, our room had views of the Turner gallery and a cosy double bed, the kitchen has everything you could need, but we mainly lived on the sublime fish and chips from just round the corner. I shall be first in the queue to come back when Dreamland opens next door, the chidren are demanding to know when we are going to their 'seaside dolly house' again. I am going back for the comfort and culture - oh, and the chips....
We're delighted you all enjoyed your visit and found the flat comfy and well-equipped, and had time to admire those panoramic sea views far out over the Kent coast. Thank you for leaving the flat spick and span, and for making time to leave this review. Dreamland Amusement Park opens 19th June, and we'll look forward to welcoming you back at Dreamland Lets soon - the tea & biscuits (and the fish 'n chips) will be waiting!

"A spacious and comfortable flat ... in up and coming Margate .... with spectacular sea views!"
On arrival at the flat we received a warm and friendly welcome from Gaye and John. They went through the practicalities of the flat as well as giving us information on the local area -shops, restaurants, day trips etc. to ensure that we gained the most out of our stay. A welcome pack of tea, coffee and shortbread biscuits was much appreciated after our long drive. The flat is on the 15th floor and has the most spectacular views from all rooms, particularly the sitting room with its large expanse of windows overlooking the sea. The flat is light, airy and spacious. The kitchen is well equipped with crockery and cooking utensils and we were pleased to find a proper cooker with oven and hob. There is a washing machine, fridge/freezer, electric kettle and toaster. Perfect for our long weekend stay! The sitting room is warm and comfortable and has a lovely 'home from home' feel. The flat was clean and our bed linen appeared to be brand new. The bathroom however is rather dark (there is no window) but once again clean and functional, and with an adequate shower. The location of the flat, on the site of the iconic Dreamland Fairground, is very central, being just minutes from the seafront which is currently undergoing a revamp. Our first port of call was The Turner Contemporary where we saw 'local' girl Tracey Emin's exhibition and Rodin's The Kiss. The Turner is a wonderfully designed building with a first class cafe and excellent shop, the Harbour Arm just alongside is a lovely mix of artists' studios and cafes. Margate is undergoing something of a renaissance with money obviously being invested in updating the amenities of this once fading seaside town and with the arrival of The Turner Contemporary has attracted many artists to the area. The Old Town has a distinctively bohemian feel. Yes, Margate is definitely a place on the up! We look forward to our next stay at Dreamland Lets!
Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review, we're so pleased you found the flat to have that comfortable 'home from home' feeling we strive for, and enjoyed the complimentary tea & biscuits while admiring those amazing sea views far out over Margate's seafront. We're glad you found our little tour and local info useful to make the most of your holiday in Margate, we make sure we keep it up-to-date as the Turner especially has constantly changing exhibitions, workshops and family activities. Thank you for leaving everything so clean and neat, we look forward to welcoming you back to Dreamland Lets soon.

"Fabulous flat, wonderful welcome, amazing holiday - we'll be back!"
Wow! We had a fabulous time in Margate, Gaye went out of her way to make us welcome, the flat was really clean and nice, and fitted out well, even tea and biscuits waiting for us. I went with my elderly uncle and aunt and my two small children, toddler and baby. My aunt liked the lift cos of her bad knee, my uncle liked the amazing views and the children really loved playing with all the toys Gaye provided in the flat. We all really liked the sandy beach so close, just across the road, it was a great holiday, excellent value foe money, and we definitely want to come back. Thanks Gaye for a lovely holiday!
I'm so glad you all enjoyed yourselves at Dreamland Lets in Margate, you were lovely guests, thanks to the children for putting all the toys back in the toybox, and to you for leaving the flat so nice and tidy - we look forward to seeing you again soon.
