Between Toulouse and Bordeaux, in the South West of France, the Gers, heart of Gascony, welcomes you.
Country of d’Artagnan and the musketeers, our department holds the key to a charming stay in the countryside. It offers rolling and luminous landscapes, flavours and tones of character, a philosophy of the time, a culture of delight to all the senses, leisure activities propitious for recharging one’s batteries and tourism to be discovered all year round from fortified towns to fortified towns.
The local delicacies include Confit de Canard, Pate de Foie Gras and Armagnac. Local wines include Madiran and Saint Mont. Varieties of Vache, Brebis and Chevre cheeses abound.
Through the magic of its traditional fairs, festivals and areas of light full of discoveries, the Gers in Gascony opens its doors to you.
Less than one hour to the south the gentle rolling landscapes give way to the dramatic peaks of the Pyrenees for summer hikes or winter sports.
The Marciac area
The small village of Malabat is an ideal location for those wanting a laid back vacation but it is close enough to many activities for those more energetic. You can just wander round the villages sampling local produce from local suppliers at the weekly markets.
Marciac is a perfect fortified town founded in 1298. The streets form a quadrille leading to the central square the focal point of the village and typical of south west france. Surprising for such a small town is the spire of its 14th Century church which is the tallest in the department.
Marciac hosts the internationally famous Jazz festival during the first 2 weeks August. For country western Music fans there is the annual festival In nearby Mirande or the Tempo Latino in Vic Fezensac.
The nearby village of Villecomtal provides butcher, small supermarket. pharmacy, 2 bakers, newsagent hotel/restaurant and local doctor. Marciac offers larger supermarkets, ,bakers butchers, bars restaurants pharmacy.
