The Costa del Sol region

Malaga is situated in Spain’s most southerly region, Andalucia, which is the home to typical Spanish experiences. Flamenco, tapas, bullfighting and the guitar all began in Andalucía and still remain ingrained in society today.
The Costa Del Sol stretches along just over 150km of the Malaga Province and is the home of many white, silky beaches dotted along the coastline. The area’s mild climate is the main reason that has made it such a popular holiday destination as it is possible to enjoy the beaches and a wide variety of outdoor activities year round.
Malaga’s airport (945 04 88 38) receives many daily flights from dozens of airlines, both budget and otherwise, from around Europe. Many international and local car hire agencies are present at the airport, many with small cars for around €150 per week. Being the main gateway to Andalucía, day or overnight trips to Cordoba, Seville, Granada and Ronda are possible.
The Marbella / Las Chapas area
The apartment is situated in the hillside resort of Las Chapas, a short distance from many wonderful beaches and in the midst of golf country with Santana, El Chapparal, La Noria, Santa Maria, Miraflores and La Cala, Marbella Golf, Santa Clara and Rio Real, all within an hours drive.
Las Chapas is within easy distance of the following areas:
Malaga - 25kms
Malaga, a historic port city set against the dazzling blue Mediterranean presents the visitor with narrow old streets and wide, leafy boulevards, beautiful gardens and impressive monuments. There are also fashionable shops and a blossoming cultural life, particularly with the opening of the major new museum devoted to Málaga-born Pablo Picasso.
Don’t miss:
• The Feria de Malaga in August – an 11 day festival highlighting the start of the bullfighting season. During the day the city centre is transformed with horses carrying people dressed in typical costume. There are also food stalls, and the evening party in Cortijo de Toros is where the real party starts with over 200 pavilions open to the public. There will be flamenco dancing, fireworks, music and bands.
• A visit to the recently opened Picasso museum is a must.
• Start the evening revelries at The Sala Tantra Buddha Bar.
Marbella - 10kms
Spain’s answer to San Tropez, the luxurious resort of Marbella has become a playground to the international jet set. However, there is a more down to earth side for its visitors to explore. One of the prettiest places is “Plaza de las naranjas” a central hub of activity where stately buildings, art galleries, shops and lively bars and restaurants can be found.
Don’t miss:
• Glamorous summer events with live music, beach bonfires and full moon parties at Nikki Beach. Ones not to miss include the opening party (28 May 2009) where guests dress entirely in white and the closing party (4 Oct 2009) where guests dress in red.
• Night out at Olivia Valere – swanky nightclub with Moorish inspired décor.
• Marbella Old Town – a maze of pretty winding streets and charming plazas
Puerto Banus - 10kms
Puerto Banus is located just west of Marbella. It is an upmarket port town with many impressive yachts to look at as you sip a cocktail in one of the many open air restaurants in the marina. Puerto Banus also boasts a lively night life with many clubs and discos as well as being a mecca for shoppers particularly with the opening of El Corte Ingles department store.
Don’t miss:
• Weekly Saturday market held near the bullring.
Estepona – 25kms
West of Marbella, Estepona has maintained its former old coastal fishing village charm. There are numerous cafés, quirky shops and tapas bars situated on narrow cobbled streets.
Don’t miss:
• Weekly events ranging from fashion, flamenco and donkey shows. Visit http://www.andalucia.com/calendar/estepona.htm.
Ronda – 75kms
Ronda is a historic hill top village in the mountain range of Serrania de Ronda. Situated on the dramatic Tajo gorge it is renowned for its stunning views, its beautifully preserved old town, good restaurants and bars. It is also the birthplace of modern bullfighting.
Don’t miss:
• Semana Santa (5-12 April annually) which celebrate Holy Week with processions.
• Pedro Romeo Fair (Sept 2009) around the Ronda Bullring. The Goyesca costumed bullfighters are the highlight of the event
• A Visit to the Plaza de Toros (The bullring)

Directions to La Reserva de Marbella II:
As you turn out of airport car park, follow signs to Malaga, you'll pass under a small flyover, and the road curves right onto the main dual carriageway out of the airport. After about 200m, you'll come to a roundabout. Go straight on. San Miguel beer factory is on your right. Carry on straight past this keeping in the right hand lane, because you need to exit here. Once on this 3-laned road, stay in the right hand lane. You'll go past a big building called PuntoCash, keep in the right hand lane. Shortly after you need to exit right again, where there's a blue sign saying "Algeciras and Marbella" The road is called either the N7 (I think). Once you're on this road, there are 2 options: either stay on it all the way to Calahonda exit (this is the toll road and will cost you about 3 euros), or you can exit at the sign for the "N7" coast road. My advice would be to stay on the toll road, because it's much quieter and a LOT safer. The Spanish drivers are nutters, they drive 2 foot behind you at 70mph. There are loads of accidents on the Cosat rd, so be careful! Once you’ve exited the Calahonda toll, follow the road down the hill (towards the sea), following signs for Marbella and Algeciras. After some winding downhill (towards the sea) you'll come out onto the Coast rd (N7). Turn right onto this road, and follow for about a mile. Look out for a green neon "Pharmacy" cross sign on the left, and a hidden sign on the right for "La Reserva de Marbella". Our turning is just after you go under a footbridge. The exit is also for "Las Chapas".Once you've turned off, there’s a small pinkish Sales Office for La Reserva de Marbella on your right. If you have any problems they can help you out here. 100m up the hill from the exit there is a mini roundabout. Turn right, and you'll see some red buildings ahead (Chinese Restaurant, cocktail bar). Drive straight past them (so they are on your right) and the road goes uphill. You will see a golf course on your right. In approx 200m the road curves round sharpish to the left. Follow this up a steep hill, all the way to the top. You will enter la Reserva de Marbella after about half a mile.
There are red blocks of flats on the left, and building work on the right. Our block is the 1st one after the roundabout on the left (bloque 4). Turn into the underground garage entrance, and use the orange key to open the garage doors up.
Alternatively you can just park outside - there's plenty of space. The yellow key gets you into the lobby, then go in the lift to floor 2. We are straight ahead as you come out of the lift (apt 4202).

The apartment is of an excellent quality and the facilities are excellent. Andy's bar and mini market are really useful especially if you have a late flight in as we did as the restaurant is fantastic. The pools are clean and safe with a life guard on the bottom pool at all times. My only recommendation which is in the details is that you will get more out of this apartment if you hire a car. The beaches are lovely and the port offers some great eating places. The whole booking was straight forward and stress free, thank you |
