The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
The Costa del Sol is located at Spain, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world: its miles of beautiful, sandy beaches and fantastic weather have kept tourists flocking back year after year to resorts like Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola and Marbella. The Costa del Sol caters to the young and old alike, offering a host of entertainment choices for both natives and visitors.
The coast boasts one of the highest concentrations of world-class golf courses, (highest conentration is in Malaga Spain) to the extent that it is often dubbed "The Costa del Golf." For families there are theme parks, including water parks, go-karting, safari parks and many beautiful public gardens. For younger visitors the main areas of attraction are Benalmadena's Puerto Marina & '24-hour square' and Puerto Banus Marbella. Both are very trendy and chic, but be warned: the bars and clubs don't get busy until near midnight and stay open 'till dawn.
The area's history dates back to the Phoenicians and has since been inhabited by Greeks, Romans and Moors, all of whom have left their mark on the area's architecture and culture. Perhaps less well-known is the coastal culture, often in the shadow of neighbouring Seville. The Costa and the Malaga province are home to some of the finest Flamenco shows, bull fighting & tapas restaurants, typical attractions in Spain.
The area's infrastructure is well organized with the new Autopista del Sol providing access from Malaga to Estepona and beyond to Gibraltar. The old N-340 coastal road (now also called the A-7) is a little slower but offers some lovely sea views as it winds its way along the coast. Links between Granada, Seville and Cordoba are easily accessible for those wishing to venture further inland. The International airport has regular flights to most major cities, and is located just 10 minutes from Malaga City centre and within 30 minutes by car from most other popular resorts on the coast.
Marbella / La Mairena area
The Costa del Sol has been known as the Costa del Golf by players of the game since the 1980s. It was then that golfers realised that the warm and sunny climate of Southern Spain allowed for a much-desired all-year round golf season, impossible elsewhere in Europe due to miserable winter weather.
Golf courses have sprung up in Andalucia and all along the coast ever since and now total more than 60. Unbelievably it is still necessary to book in advance to play many courses such is the level of demand.

For the frontline golf home owner, views of fairways and greens make a pleasant living environment guaranteed to be safe from future developments popping up next door.
Facilities are available for the beginner, the professional and anyone in between, with numerous golf academies and practice facilities attached to most courses. The coast is home to many professional players come coaches, who are willing to pass their expertise onto those who desire improvement in their game.
How to get there
Directions From Malaga Airport to El Soto:
When exiting the airport, stay in the right hand lane in order to take the A7/N340/E15 motorway to Fuengirola and Marbella. Continue to keep in the right hand lane heading for Fuengirola as the road will after a few kilometres branch into the AP7 on the left. Stay in the right hand lane and continue on the A7 to Marbella.
Before you reach Marbella take the Km 192 exit at Elviria.
When you exit the A7 here you will come to a roundabout. Continue straight ahead at the round about (1st exit) onto Avenida de Espana. When you get to the second roundabout take the second exit and continue up the hill on Avenida de Espana. After approximately 3.5 kilometres you will get to a junction on the right and you will see huge billboards for El Soto de Marbella and El Vicario.
Take this road and continue along the windy road until you get to a strange roundabout affair. Take the road on the immediate right. Continue along this road for about .5 kilometres then take the first left at the signpost for El Soto Club de Golf. Continue down this road past the golf club clubhouse and El Soto Restaurant until you get to another junction on the right hand side. You will see the signs for El Soto de Marbella Fase 2a and Fase 2B. Turn right here. Portal 27BC is through the gates on the left hand side.
