The Costa del Sol region

With more than 265 days of sunshine per year it's clear to see why this Southern Region of Spain attracts the most visitors all year round from all over the world. The Spanish tempo and tapas cuisine along with the best golf courses in Europe make this a real must to visit for both holiday makers and golfers. Two hours drive away to the North East and you will get to Sierra Nevada which in the Winter time will give skiers and snowboarders a means by which they release their adrenaline, at the same time that day they could be by the beach in the early evening deciding what culinary delights to feast on for dinner.

Granada: Ancient city and old capital of the Moorish empire in Spain, famous for it's Alhambra Palace and stunning gardens. (2 hours drive)

Rhonda: Roman and Moorish Architecture, and built on a ravine. Has shops and restaurants, stunning views from the ravine. On your way up look out for golden eagles. (One hour drive)

Gibraltar: Has caves, cable car, an old Moorish castle and of course the famous apes. Please remember to take a passport. ( One and half hours drive)

Mijas: Old, picturesque white washed village with many bars and restaurants as well as shops, has superb views overlooking the Mediterranean coast. ( Thirty minutes drive)

Marbella

At the foot of the Sierra Blanca hills, in a beautiful bay, is Marbella's historic quarter. A delightful layout which displays its typically Andalusian charm through neat whitewashed façades decorated with grilles and geraniums and orange trees which spring up on every corner.

The heart of the town is plaza de Los Naranjos, from the Renaissance period, flanked by noble buildings such as the City Hall (16thcentury) and the old Chief Magistrate's Office (17th century). In the small church square you will find the Greater Church of la Encarnación, built in the 16th century. In this same setting stands one of the two towers which formed part of the city's old Arab fortress, from the 9th century.Testimony to the city's Roman origins are the many archaeological sites to be found in the area, outstanding among which are the Paleochristian basilica of Vega del Mar, the Roman baths of Guadalmina or the Roman villa of Río Verde.

The considerable cultural offer of Marbella is completed by the Spanish Contemporary Engraving Museum, considered to be the most important of its kind in Spain. Situated in the Hospital Bazán (16th century), it houses an interesting collection of engravings from the 19th and 20th centuries, with works by grand masters of the stature of Picasso, Miró or Dalí.

Marbella Old Town:

Has recently gone through a massive regeneration with lots of shops, bars and plenty of exciting restaurants and tapas bars. Orange Square and old castle area have typical Andalucian squares and narrow streets. Be sure to try a local delicacy called "Churros" which are sausage shaped doughnuts which you dip into hot chocolate.

Markets:

We recommend the Saturday market in Puerto Banus next to the bullring. Has everything from food to fake goods, perfect for cheap presents.

We also recommend Monday market in Marbella.

Puerto Banus: Great yachting marina with large luxury boats of the rich and famous (Who will you see?) Many places to eat and drink, as well as people watch. Very good shopping opens very late into the night. ( Twenty minute drive from Villa).

"Absolutely brilliant holiday!"

Fantastic villa with lots of space and all the gadgets you need. Sky TV and wifi too which was perfect. Gorgeous garden and pool with spectacular views of the sea and the mountains. So chilled and quiet but close to beaches, shopping, restaurants and night life. Stayed there with my parents, husband and our toddler and we will definitely return next summer!
