The Costa del Sol region
The Costa del Sol stretches along 150km of Málaga province and is one of Spain's most popular tourist destinations, with its wide sweeps of golden sand. The area's mild climate is the main attraction – visitors can enjoy the beaches, as well as alfresco dining plus a wide variety of outdoor activities, all year round.
The area is famous for its hundreds of beaches to be enjoyed along this coast, from quiet, hidden coves to trendy stretches of sand with fashionable beach clubs populated by celebrities and beautiful people from all over the world.
One of the most popular pastimes on the Costa is golf – there are over 50 golf courses in the area, with stunning mountain and clifftop locations, offering spectacular views over the area’s varied landscapes, and down to the sea.
Less well-known, but definitely worth a visit, are the many stunning national parks around Malaga province, often located just a short, easy drive inland. You can go hiking, caving, wild swimming, four-wheel-driving, horse-riding and countless other adventurous activities.
If night-time is your time, then you’ll find a huge selection of bars and clubs along the coast, especially around Marbella and Puerto Banus, ranging from the fun and easygoing, to the chic and sophisticated.
If you’re coming to the coast on holiday, don’t miss Malaga City, which has reinvented itself in recent years as a cultural and gastronomic centre. It has an unparalleled offering of musuems, including the Picasso Museum, a buzzing contemporary arts scene, and top-class tapas bars and restaurants.
This area also has the advantage of being just 2 hours drive from Sierra Nevada where you can enjoy skiing and snow boarding from December to April. Likewise heading towards Cadiz province is the sherry capital of Spain – Jerez and then Seville.
Marbella has an air of individuality which can be best appreciated by exploring back streets in the old part of town. One of the prettiest places is the fabled 'Orange Square' which is located just off the main street in the older district and is also home to the 16th century town hall and tourist office where you can pick up a detailed map and visitor information.
Orange Square, or "La Plaza de los Naranjos", as it is called in Spanish, expect to meet with stately buildings, small shops, art galleries, bars and bistros and is a hub of activity day and night. And, depending on the time of year, the colours here can be vibrant, with the trees and exotic tropical plants set against a backdrop of dazzling white buildings and a deep blue sky.
Be sure to explore the honeycomb of surrounding narrow streets where homes and shops intermingle to create the atmosphere of a small village, rather than a cosmopolitan town. There are numerous excellent restaurants to choose from, ranging from those specialising in the predictably pricey exclusive cordon bleu to the gritty individuality of a backstreet Spanish bar where the Serrano ham is gently cured by tobacco smoke and the tapas are both tasty and filling.

Great views, great location. As we went for golf and some fine dining, we were looking for an apartment near to all the best golf courses in the area, as well as easy access to Puerto Banus, Nueva Andalucia and Benahavis. This apartment was perfect for all of teh above.
The apartment was superbly maintained and very clean and tidy. The balcony and communal pool offered great views of the area and were very comfotable. I can honestly say that even someone as contrary as me had precious little to complain about.

"Quality location with lovely friends in excellent surroundings"
When we enquired about the apartment we received an answer within an hour. A few emails and questions later and we had agreed dates and price, v quick and professional. Easy directions from Malaga airport, about 45 mins. Was met at the apartment, shown how everything worked and handed the keys.
The apartment was clean and nicely furnished, it felt right directly we walked in the door. Marble bathrooms and towels provided, nice touch. Large terrace on which many G&T's were sunk.
Lovely quiet location, super views to La Concha from the pool, yes we were around the pool in May. Really appreciated security walking around this gated complex, felt safe.
5* Melia la Quinta hotel just down the road, had a couple of luxury spar sessions and drinks. Not cheap, but you only live once.
Eat in Marbella old town, Puerto Banus, Melia La Quinta and Benhavis, spoilt for choice. Eating in Puerto Banus watching life and fast cars wander by was brilliant, again, spoilt for choice.
Golf at Los Naranjos, Aloha, Las Brisas and of course La Quinta its self.
Forced ourselves to leave the pool for days out in Gibraltar and Ronda.
