The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
The Costa del Sol is a region which comprises the coastal towns and communities in the western part of Málaga province in the south of Spain, in the autonomous community of Andalusia. The name translates to "Coast of the Sun" in English. Formerly a series of quiet fishing settlements, the region has been completely transformed since the latter part of the 20th century into a tourist destination of world renown, with a near-continuous urban agglomeration of settlements and resorts running along the length of the coastline.

SANTA MARIA GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB has come to occupy a well-earned place amongst the elite golf clubs in the Costa del Sol The 18-hole course offers players a challenging game with view of both the mountains and the Mediterranean. The first nine holes were designed by Antonio Garcia Garrido, and when these holes opened, the club became a very popular with members. The second nine, designed by the club's technical staff, opened in 1996 and the course has now matured into one of the finest along the coast. Amenities include the 19th-century clubhouse restaurant with terrace, bars, lounges and snooker room. There are also tennis courts, swimming pool and a lawn bowls club on the club's grounds. Noted for being the friendliest club of the Costa, Santa Maria has an impressive number of club facilities and an active social and golfing calendar. Set in 1000 acres of spectacular wooded valley, the course follows the river bed and offers distracting views of the Mediterranean. It has excellent practice facilities.
SANTA CLARA - Situated in Elviria, one of the most exclusive areas of Marbella, Santa Clara is set to become one of the finest Golf Courses on the Costa del Sol. Created by Enrique Canales this par 71, 5878 metre course is set in a private 360 acre estate. It offers breathtaking panoramic views towards the mountains and sea and is included in the prestigious Marbella Challenge. Competitions are held every Saturday with start times usually between 11:00 and 12:00 in Elviria.
SHOPPING Shopping centres, or centros commerciales, comprise dozens of shops and services on various levels along with a multi-cine (cinema complex) and the usual fast-food outlets. The sun shines, it's a beautiful day, but these cathedrals of spending are always full. Some are well designed: light and airy with high glass ceilings, and with plants and art exhibitions others are full-on, shop-till-you-drop Meccas with blaring music, glaring lights and tunnel-like walkways.

Andalucía is a mecca for water sports, thanks to the proximity of the coastlines, as well as the numerous lakes and reservoirs. The most popular sports include sailing, windsurfing, water-skiing, jet-skiing, surfing and subaquatic sports.
PARQUE ACUATICO MIJAS One of the best water fun-parks around, located on the outskirts of Fuengirola. Wave pool, kamikaze slide, water chutes, adventure river with winding raft slides and a mini aqua park for the kids. The park also has a full entertainment program including shows for children, water aerobics (displays and free classes), regional dances and beach volleyball competitions.

www.nikkibeach.com Situated in a superb location Nikki Beach provides a luxurious and relaxed sun bathing environment away from the madding crowd. By day the ambience is one of pure relaxation enhanced by the luxury that Nikki Beach has become famous for. As the sun begins to set things take a slightly different turn as the music starts to increase in volume and the party really starts to get underway. Many day visitors cannot but help themselves and are overcome by the ambience, joining in the party through to the early hours of the morning.
SKIING The ski resort of Sol y Nieve is located in the Sierra Nevada mountain range in Andalucia. It is the most southerly ski resort in Europe and is small in comparison to other European resorts, even so, the resort hosted the 1996 world ski championships. The Sierra Nevada ski resort has numerous runs of varying difficulties to satisfy all skiing desires. Natural snow is supplemented by snow cannons on some runs. Being so far south, many skiers are pleasantly surprised to find the air temperature is usually warmer than other resorts. There is an surprisingly active nightlife in the Sierra Nevada resort. Spaniards have a reputation for being 'night owls' and this can be witnessed even in a skiing resort. Most of the visitors come from Madrid and the cities of Andalucia, weekends and banks holidays are particularly busy. The skiing season is December to April.
The Sierra Nevada resort is only a 2 hour drive from Málaga airport. Visitors should also consider visiting the attractions in Granada city.

How to get there
Driving from Malaga Airport, follow the signs to Torremolinos and Cádiz. After joining the main road look for the blue motorway signs marked Algeciras and Cádiz.
Stay on the motorway (N-340), watch out for the toll to the left just before Fuengirola as you do not want to filter onto the toll.
14 kms after Fuengirola you will see the exit marked Elviria (Kilometre Marker post 192). Take this exit and go straight over the roundabout. Drive up the avenue, which has Pine Forests on both sides and take first right at the next roundabout, signposted Santa Maria. Follow the signs to Santa Maria Golf Club and Los Patios entrance is adjacent to the Golf Club.
