The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
The Costa del Sol is famous for it's climate - the area boasts on average 320 days of sunshine per year. On the coast there are miles of sandy beaches, whilst inland, there are many quaint hillside villages (pueblos blancos - white villages) with spectacular views and which are steeped in history and Andalucian culture. Andalucia is the 'home' of flamenco and the bullfight. If you are a 'culture vulture', dont miss the Picasso Museum in Malaga or the fabulous outdoor Salvador Dali sculptures in Marbella. Golf is a major attraction on the Costa all year round (hence the term Costa del Golf) and there are a host of excellent courses for all standards. The cities of Granada and Seville are both within easy driving distance (approx. 2 hours) and worth visiting. The stunning town of Ronda is even closer.
ENTERTAINMENT FOR CHILDREN, TEENAGERS AND ADULTS A wide range of water sports and tennis are available locally. Fuengirola Zoo, within 15 kms Mijas Aquatic Park - also on the outskirts of Fuengirola. Tivoli World Theme Parks - just past Benalmadena. Selwo Adventure & Nature Park, near Estepona. La Canada Shopping Mall (10 minute drive from Elviria on road to Marbella) has extensive shopping and also includes a multi-screen cinema and a bowling centre.
From our lovely base in the sun, you can enjoy a family beach holiday, a golf holiday or a Winter skiing holiday in the Sierra Nevadas just 2 hours drive from Elviria.
Marbella / Elviria area
Elviria is a small and cosmopolitan resort which has all you want close at hand - it's fabulous lengthy golden beach (perfect for the sun-worshipper, walker, swimmer and water sports enthusiast alike), golf and tennis. It has supermarkets (including the 24 hour, 365 day Opencor) and a range of cafes and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. The famous Nikki Beach Club, attached to the 5* Don Carlos Hotel is nearby.
It is a village occupied all year round by locals and holidaymakers alike. It is both perfect for the visitor who wants to stay put and 'chill out' or as a base for those who wish to explore the Costa and Andalucia with it's unique history and culture and it's many fine towns and cities.
10/15 mins away is Marbella with Puerto Banus just a little further. Marbella is a bustling city, but dont miss the quaint Old Town with its narrow medieval streets, its shops & restaurants. Puerto Banus is 'ritzy' and here you can while away the hours sipping the drink of your choice & celebrity spotting. The night life is particularly lively in 'the port'!
Most towns have their own Festivals (feria) - check the local tourist guides for these and details of weekly Markets in your locality. Elviria's has it's own weekly market (Fri) and the Saturday morning market in Puerto Banus (beside the Bullring) is extremely popular - go early for easier parking and the best bargains!
How to get there
Fly to Malaga International Airport. Elviria is just a 20/25 min drive (35 kms) south west from the Airport. Malaga is very well served from U.K, Irish and European airports. The major airlines (commercial & charter) including Ryanair, Easyjet, Aerlingus, Monarch, First Choice, Thompson etc. etc., have regular flights. Why not google: 'Flight Malaga-name of your local airport'. Car hire is available at very competitive rates - try any of the following: www.carjet.com www.arguscarhire.com or www.doyouspain.com We can recommend a very competitive mini bus service from the Airport to Elviria and back. Taxis are freely available day & night.
