The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
Costa del Sol has tourist places like Marbella and Puerto Banus which can be visited all year round. Costa del Sol with its climate is the right place also for a winter break. The Costa del Sol situated in the South of Spain offers more than 40 Golf Courses, ports, tennis and nightlife. Costa del Sol is the region also know as the playground of Jet-Set people all year round.
The Costa Del Sol has the best all year round climate in Europe with over 300 days of sunshine.
Marbella / Los Monteros area
The Old Town of Marbella with its lovely cobbled streets and traditional restaurants is only a 5 minute drive away. T Within a 15 to 20 minute drive you and your family can be enjoying Selwo Wildlife Park, Selwo Dolphin Park, 2 water parks for the kids, Crocodile Park and the best golf courses the Costa Del Sol has to offer. Should still have some time left over after all that you can head to the coast which is only minutes away where you can enjoy the marina of Puerto Banus just10 minutes away with beautiful restaurants and great shopping and nightlife. On the southern coastline of Spain lies the Costa del Sol, where there are miles of sandy beaches and over 320 days of sunshine every year. The coastal resort of Marbella is amongst the most popular of destinations. Further down the coast are quieter towns and villages, such as Estepona, a quaint town with a wonderful sea front. Golfers who wish to play on first class courses in dry, sunny weather will find their dreams fulfilled on the Costa del Sol.
You will, in fact, find some of the best courses in the world in this area. If sightseeing is on your agenda, then this wonderful area has much to offer. This is the coastal heart of Andulucia and many excursions are possible including a trip to the picturesque village of Ronda, only one hour's drive away and stepped in thousands of years of history. The romantic city of Seville is 2 - 3 hours drive away, and nearby is Selwo Safari Park, home to a wide range of animals and birds in a semi natural setting. Also in the area is an equestrian centre, a horse racing track, the Tivolli World Amusement Park, various water parks at Torremolinos and Fuengirola and, of course, you won’t want to miss the Barbary Apes in Gibraltar. For the more adventurous a trip to Morocco is easily arranged.
Malaga City is a very interesting place to visit with its cathedral dating back to 1528 when the first stone was laid.
Jardin El Angel (El Angel Gardens). Leaving Marbella in the direction of Istan, and situated in the El Angel Colony (in front of the Aloha College), you will find one of the most complete botanical gardens on the Costa del Sol. The El Angel Gardens can be visited during the day or at night as it is very well lit.
Avenida del Mar. The Avenida is studded with the most complete collection of sculptures by Salvador Dali, bought by the Marbella Town Hall during the GIL Government. The marble floors (always kept clean and shiny) make the Avenida del Mar one of the most beautiful parts of Marbella.
Parque de La Constitucion. In the very centre of the city you can find one of the most beautiful and peaceful parts of Marbella. With thick vegetation, a children’s playground and a small astronomic observatory, this park is the ideal resting place for all those looking for a little peace. There is an auditorium inside which seats 600, and plays home to shows throughout the year that vary from opera to theatre, choirs, concerts and the never-ending cultural events.
Selwo Safari Park is well worth a visit. Just off the N340 highway, close to Estepona lies one of the world’s most unique nature parks, Selwo Safari Park. The park is easy to get to, with ample parking outside the front gate. There are a number of places to eat and drink and although some of the park is by all-terrain vehicle, be prepared for a good long walk. Your journey through Selwo starts with the botanical gardens where you will see a wide variety of plants, all set in peaceful gardens. There are many animals on display, some of which are quite rare. All are kept in first class conditions and well cared for. One of the most unusual walks is through the bird canyon, a large netted area where birds fly freely, as though in the wild. Cross the spectacular 107m long bridge to the central village where you can take the safari truck on two very different routes. The valley route encompasses the bears, lions and tigers among other animals. From the viewpoint, the whole park is visible and on a clear day you can see Gibraltar and the coast of Africa. The second route is the Sabana route, which is inhabited by species such as gnus, orix, antelopes and rhinos. From here you can see the roaming elephants. Selwo is recommended as a unique and fantastic experience for the whole family.
Seville is about a two hour drive away or you can easily arrange a coach tour. In Seville, you will want to visit the old city, with the Cathedral and the Giralda tower at its heart. Very close by are the royal Mudéjar palace known as the Alcazar with marvellous gardens and the Santa Cruz quarter, with cramped streets, flowered balconies, richly decorated facades, hidden patios. The Sevillians are great actors and put on an extraordinary performance at their annual Fería de Abril, a week-long party of drink, food and dance which takes place day and night in more than a thousand especially mounted tents. But above all, it allows the men to parade on their fine horses and the women to dance in brilliantly coloured gypsy dresses. Immediately before that is Holy Week, Semana Santa, a religious festival where hooded penitents march In long processions followed by huge baroque floats on which sit Images of the Virgin or Christ, surrounded by cheerful crowds. Both spring events are well worth experiencing.
