from £47 /night help
Apartment | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 6
The holiday apartment Casa Maria Cività, totally restored and furnished in a modern style, is located directly behind the outskirts in an old town house - a typical tower-flat, what means that one floor is one room and the floors are connected by spiral stairs. Ground floor: entrance and living room with television, sofa bed and a small bathroom. First floor: the well furnished kitchen with dining table and access to a balcony. Second floor: bedroom 1 with double bed and balcony. Third floor: bedroom 2 with sofa bed and further a bathroom with bath. All rooms are light-flooded because of large French windows and the dormer window on the highest level. The apartment has no terrace, so why do not trying the origin Italians way of life: Enliven the streets, the Piazza and the bars, cozy places where you can sit outside to any time of the day.
The town is located on the foot of the Aurunci Mountains in a panoramic-position overlooking the Gulf of Gaeta. This extraordinary position give the possibility to reach the beaches at the Gulf and the walking trails in the nature park in a few minutes during sight-seeing of origin nature and rural culture at the walking time.
Recommendable day-trips for unforgettable holidays: Rome, Naples, Pompeii, the Vesuv, Caserta, Monte Cassino, the Pontine Islands, Ischia, Capri...
Experience the origins Italians here in the ancient "borgo" in Maranola! Maranola is a busy, medieval town centre; most of the live take place in the streets and the bars. Young and old people are coming together in the streets: The old woman sitting knitting on a bench, teenager with skate boards, the mother with her child on the way home, old men and women sitting at the outskirts of the town changing the brand-new news, children who are playing in the alleys or at the Piazza...and many expressions more. Yes, of course, the old man with a big stick in his hands walking through the streets day in, day out - very likeable.
And further all the typical little things which presents the Italian daily live-style: Clothes lines with laundries are hanging across the streets, small shops and bars, the typical picture of motor scooters, parked under the archway of the old town, a roaring puffing "Ape" who is coming up the hill, restaurants with traditional local dishes and all the other traditions the people are keeping alive until today.
Here only two examples of the traditions in town:
- The musician Ambrogio Sparanga keeps with his accordion-orchestra the folkloristic music alive; he isn't only known in Italy
- End of June: in a procession the people carry up the statue of San Michele Arcangelo to a small mountain church to protect all the people who are working in the mountains and bring it back in town end of September.

The Lazio region
The region of Lazio, rich of culture and nature, is situated in the centre of Italy.
Hilly landscapes with olive- and vine cultivations and the lakes Bracciano and Bolzena characterizes the north of the region. The culturally heydays are the famous Etruscan excavation and the sulphur-wells, where you can spoil your skin under the open sky.
Rome is the culturally and economically center as well as the capital city of Italy, located directly in the heartland of Lazio.
Mountains are in the south, rising above 2000 meters; lower, heading the coast the gentle green slopes are overgrown with orange-and lemon trees and olive-and vine cultivations.
The coast is uneven, sandy beaches alternate rocky cliffs, suggestive little bays and hills are covered with Mediterranean spontaneous vegetation (macchia mediterranea).
Thousands of years of history signed the landscape, increasing the cultural value of this land: Excavations from the Roman and the pre-Roman time (Etruscan, Ausonia and Aurunci), medieval towns, monasteries and convents, make the stay in Lazio always an astonishing experience.
The region has many nature reserves and little protected oasis; very beautiful for short walks, hiking tours or trekking.
The Garigliano river natural park at the board with Campania offers multiple opportunities to come in contact with the lush river vegetation and the wild animals that inhabit along the banks.
Thermal springs are to find in the region of Viterbo, Tivoli and Fiuggi and in the south in Suio.
Located in the south of the region, The Pontine Islands join sensational nature, clear water, characteristic fisher towns and Roman culture. The main Island Ponza is also called pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
The food and wine tradition might deserve its own chapter: fish and seafood on the coast; rustically cuisine in the countryside (meat and sausage, cheese and a lot of different vegetables), buffalo mozzarella, and olives of Gaeta are only some examples.
Lots of tasty and important wines are available for experts and curious tasters, thanks to the unique warm weather and the composition of the soil.
The area between south of Lazio and northern Campania, named Campania Felix by the ancient Roman, produces since centuries a particular wine, called Falernus, one of the many wine excellence of the area.
Formia is located in the south of the Latium at the gorgeous Gulf of Gaeta. The Gulf of Gaeta is surrounded by the gigantically mountain range of the Aurunci Mountains. They rise in a height of 1500 meters, the foothills stretch to the sea. Therefore, the coast is very rough: long sandy beaches, small bas and steep coasts. In this area, the climate is Mediterranean and very mild throughout the year. The average temperature is about 14, 6 degrees in the winter months. The typical vegetations are olive trees, lemon- and orange trees, fig trees and palms. Gaetas olives are very famous in this area.
Formia is also the commercial centre of the Gulf. The Via Vitruvio in the centre and large shopping centers invite for shopping.
