How to get there

There are four routes from the south, via:1. M74, Stirling, Doune, Crianlarich, Tyndrum*, Oban, then south to Kilmelford. 127 miles, 3hrs. I think this is the easiest route.2. M74, Erskine Bridge, Tarbet, Crianlarich, Tyndrum*, Oban, then south to Kilmelford. 117 miles, 2¾hrs. Quaint between Tarbet and Crianlarich.3. M74, Erskine Bridge, Tarbet, Arrocher, Rest and Be Thankful, Inveraray, Loch Awe, Oban, then south to Kilmelford. 116 miles, 2¾hrs. Beautiful road from Inveraray to Loch Awe.4. M74, Erskine Bridge, Tarbet, Arrocher, Rest and Be Thankful, Inveraray, Lochgilphead, north to Kilmelford. 110miles, 2¾hrs. Twisty road from Inveraray to Kilmelford*Tyndrum, on the left before the 'Green Wellie', the 'Real Food Cafe' is well-worth a stop for its excellent fish and chips!

Getting around

Cars are essential. However there is the train station in Oban, with four trains a day to Glasgow Central. There is an intercity bus service and a local bus service. International and national flights come in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Ferries go to the southern islands from Oban.
