How to get there

Less than 2 hours drive from Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool, Tyn Yr Wtra is a 15 minute drive (or £10 taxi) from Newtown and Welshpool train stations.

For Londoners without cars, there are 5 easy steps to a 3-night short break at Tyn Yr Wtra, with just half a day off work:

1. Sneak out of work a teeny bit early on a Friday. Get the 4.43pm from London Euston to Welshpool.

2. Cross the road from Welshpool station to Tesco and get your weekend's provisions.

3. Put yourself and your provisions in the taxi you booked to pick you up from Tesco at 8.30pm, and give the driver £9 when he drops you at Tyn Yr Wtra 15 minutes later.

4. Marvel at the stars. Drink in the peace and quiet. Feel excited. Get the wine breathing. Light the fires. Relax. Spend the weekend revelling in the loveliness of 400 year old Tyn Yr Wtra in its secluded valley. Enjoy walks from the door or hike Snowdonia's mountains, swim in the sea, clamber around castles, drink ale in local pubs, play the cottage's board games, veg out, be happy.

5. Monday, 8.30am: taxi back to the station, arriving in London at 11.59am. Spend the afternoon wishing you were still at Tyn Yr Wtra, and that it wasn't a Monday afternoon in London.
