How to get there

By road, via the M6, take exit 37 (Kendal, Sedbergh) and turn towards Sedbergh on A684. Continue to Sedbergh, turn right at signpost to Hawes. Continue on A684 via Garsdale, past the Moorcock Inn. Enter Hawes and turn right by petrol station into Gayle Lane (signposted Gayle, Kettlewell). Continue forward entering Gayle, turn left and over the bridge, then right onto Beckstones, alongside the stream. Turn left opposite the ford, into The Wynd. The cottage is the first house on the left.

Alternatively take the M1 from the south to Junction 48 where it becomes the A1(M). Continue towards Wetherby and the North to Junction 51. Leave A1(M) at Junction 51, then at roundabout, take 1st exit onto A6055. At roundabout, take 1st exit then turn left onto A684, signposted Bedale. At T-junction turn right onto the A684, signposted Leyburn. Continue to Leyburn.

*At Leyburn, at roundabout, take the 1st exit onto the A684, signposted Hawes. Continue on A684 via Wensley, West Witton, Swinithwaite, Aysgarth and Worton. At Bainbridge, continue forward (one-way). At ensuiting T-junction turn left (signposted Hawes). In 3 miles turn left onto Old Gayle Lane, signposted Gayle. Continue past Trout Fishery. Continue forward passing telephone box on right. Do not cross bridge. Continue along Beckstones. Turn left opposite the ford, onto The Wynd.

The cottage is the first house on the left.

From the north A1(M) : Drive south on the A1(M) as far as Scotch Corner. Leave the A1(M) at Scotch Corner and take the A6108 to Richmond. Follow signs to Leyburn A6108, and follow above instructions from*.
