From San Jose, you have the options of going by land or air to Manzanillo. The most direct route is a 20 minute flight to Tambor, and then a 40-min taxi ride to Calamocha. Your options are outlined below:

BY AIR

From San Jose International Airport (SJO), take a 20-minute regional flight on Sansa Airlines to Tambor Airport (TMU). We can arrange either a taxi or shuttle to pick you up at Tambor (approximately $60), or you can rent a car from Budget (reserve in advance). Calamocha is a 40-min drive from Tambor Airport.

BY LAND

Shuttle—

Both private and public shuttles are available directly from San Jose to Calamocha, for approximately $250 and $50, respectively. The journey takes approximately 7 hours. Public shuttles leave twice a day (excluding holidays), and private shuttles are arranged by request to fit around your specific itinerary.

Bus—

There is also a public bus that leaves twice a day (excluding holidays) from San Jose to the Nicoya Peninsula. The journey takes about 7 hours, including an hour-long ferry ride from the mainland to the peninsula. The bus departs from Terminal 7-10 and a ticket costs $12. The bus will leave you at Playa Hermosa, after which you will need a 10 minute taxi ride north to reach Calamocha (we are happy to arrange the taxi upon request).
