A car is the best option for visiting local areas and sites of interest. There are lots of interesting places to visit nearby, but as many of them are in quieter rural locations, there isn't as much public transport available. There are good bus routes along the main coastal roads between Dundee and Kirkcaldy, so walking sections of the Fife Coastal Path is a great choice.
