How to get there

The North East Italy region around Cortina is served by three international airports, where also some low cost companies (Ryan air / Easy jet) stop over. They are in Treviso (distance: 137 km. / 85 mi. far away from Cortina) in Venice (dist.: 148 km. / 90 mi.) and in Verona (dist.: 260 km. / 160 mi.).

Getting to Cortina by car starting from each of the three airports mentioned above:

If you have a GPS on your car, just input the name “ristorante Lago Scin” on your device and follow it until you have almost reached your destination (then have a look at the point 3 below). If you don't have it, first (1) follow the signs to take the motorway A27, (A4 if you are coming from Verona, than A27) which goes from Venice to Belluno. You will have to drive for one hour and a half on the way to Belluno before you find the exit for Cortina d'Ampezzo. Take it and just follow the signs till the city centre. When you are in Cortina (2) you will have to go ahead along the way to Misurina (state road SS48 of the Dolomites' district) for about 2,5 km / 1,5 mi. You can count 16 turns starting from the crossroads between Marconi street in the city centre and the SS48 and after the last hairpin turn to the right you'll see the restaurant “Lago Scin” on your left side. (3) Ca. 50 m / 55 yds before the restaurant's car park you should see on the opposite side a narrow driveway between the trees. Once you have taken it, just turn left after 10 m /11 yds and than again to the right after 20 m. / 22 yds. If you can see a garage in front of you and the number 11 on the first floor of the house on your left side…you have arrived!

Getting to Cortina by bus or by train:

By bus [http://www.serviziampezzo.it/en/travel_cortina/bus_timetables.htm]: daily connections between the central bus station in Cortina and each of the three airports mentioned above are guaranteed by several transport companies. We recommend you to take a look at the following timetables:

[http://www.serviziampezzo.it/en/travel_cortina/to_get_to_cortina.htm]:

The first step to do is to reach the closest train station to Cortina, which is in Calalzo.

Starting from Venice: The station in Mestre nearby Venice is the closest to the airport. From here you will find trains leaving to Calalzo about every two hours (they are more frequent in the morning and in the evening, last train around 7 p.m., average duration 2 – 4 hours) but only a few of these are express trains.

Starting from Treviso: the main station of Treviso is on the way from Venice to Calalzo, timetable and frequency of the trains are therefore similar to that, the duration is on the average of 2 hours.

Starting from Verona: Verona has got two train stations close to the airport. Whether you leave from the station Porta Nuova or better from the station at Porta Vescovo, you'll have the possibility to take a train about every 90 minutes (frequency is higher in the morning, last train around 5:30 pm., average duration 3 – 5 hours).

Once you are in Calalzo you have to take a bus to get to Cortina. The transports of the company Dolomiti-bus leave about every hour during the working days (look at “f = feriale” + “Ff = both working- and holidays” in this timetable: [http://217.194.178.227/dolomitibus/dolomitibus.nsf/Images/Linea30_I.pdf/$FILE/Linea30_I.pdf]) and 10 times a day during the holidays (look at “F = festivo” + “Ff = both working- and holidays” in the same timetable).

SKI BUS in Cortina: On the same square of the central bus station in Cortina you'll find also the ski pass centre and the starting point of the cable car to the mount Faloria. Its distance from our apartment is about 3,5 Km. / 2,15 mi. but a smart way to get there is to make use of the Dolomiti ski bus [first route: 09:25 leaving from the bus stop “lago Scin” in front of the restaurant (next to the “Rio Gere” ski area), last route: 15:50 leaving from the central bus station] [http://217.194.178.227/dolomitibus/dolomitibus.nsf/Images/orario_Cortina-Misurina_2013-01-11.pdf/$FILE/orario_Cortina-Misurina_2013-01-11.pdf].

Once you are at the central bus station you can easily get to each of the ski areas of Cortina using the city- and ski buses. [http://www.serviziampezzo.it/res/download/pdf/216_it.pdf] [http://www.dolomiti.org/ita/Cortina/cinfo/seam/images/map_bus1g.gif].
