Airport O R Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg
Car Car advised

How to get there

Hazyview is about 400 kms from O R Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg and the drive takes between 4 1/2 to 5 hours. This may seem long, but it is an easy, agreeable drive. All the major car hire companies have 24/7 offices at the airport.

From the O R Tambo airport take the R21(S) signposted Boksburg. You will pass the Emperor’s Palace complex on the left and then after a couple of kms take the N12 signposted eMahaleni/Witbank 429A. Continue along the N12. At Witbank the N12 joins the N4 to Nelspruit(Mbombela)/Maputo.

The first part of journey is through a mixture of commercial farm land and industrial areas. After about 2 hours, as you approach Machadodorp, you will see a complex beside a lake on the left called “Caltex Star Stop Milly’s”. This is an excellent place to stop for something to eat, petrol, stretch legs etc. Milly’s is a trout farm and sells a delicious range of homemade foods: pates, terrines, pancakes, smoked trout; quiches, pies etc and also an extensive range of jams, pickles etc.

From now on the scenery becomes much more attractive. Shortly after Machadodorp you will see that the N4 divides for a while before joining together again shortly before Nelspruit. You can take either option. They both take about the same length of time. The left turning via Schoemanskloof is possibly more scenic and with less traffic.

From Nelspruit/Mbombela you take the R40 to White River (you can go through Nelspruit or take the new bypass). From here the journey to Hazyview should take about 45 minutes.

If you want to do any shopping en route, the Highveld Mall on the N4 at eMahaleni/Witbank is a good place to stop, as is the Riverside Mall on the R40 to White River/Hazyview just outside Nelspruit.

About 2 kms outside White River there is an option to turn right to take the R538 to Hazyview but we recommend that you carry straight on along the R40. As you approach Hazyview you pass by banana plantations and the road drops down to a STOP junction (lots of warning/danger signs for several kms before you reach the junction) just beyond the Umbhaba Hotel. Turn left here and go straight ahead at two 4-way STOP junctions (everyone stops and the car who arrived first moves first). Go straight on at the first set of traffic lights. Watch out for speed traps along this road. Turn right at the next set of traffic lights (just after the foot bridge over the road and you will see “Spar” on your right). Go straight ahead at a roundabout near some craft stalls on the left and the Twin City Blue Haze shopping mall on the right; then straight ahead at a 4-way STOP and very shortly thereafter you will see a sign on the left for Kruger Park Lodge.

The closest airport is Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport at Nelspruit. There are several flights each day from Johannesburg, Cape Town and other regional airports. It is possible to hire a car at the airport and the journey to Hazyview takes about one hour.
