Follow the A1(M) until you reach the turn-off for Chester-le-Street (Junction 63). At the roundabout take the exit sign-posted A693 for Stanley and the Beamish Museum. Take this road, and head for Stanley. After crossing three small roundabouts / junctions, take the dual carriageway for approx. 1.5 miles until you come to an old stone sign for Beamish on the right. Take this turning and then turn left onto Station Road after 0.1 mile. Turn Right into Abbots Walk after 0.2 mile. There are 2 garages on the left as you enter the private close; park in front of the garage on the right (it has a number 5 on it) and walk a few yards along the small path towards the small iron gate where you will find Shutters.
