The Provost's House is in the heart of historic Stromness, just 5 minutes walk from the car ferry terminal, where ferries arrive 3 times a day from the port of Scrabster (near Thurso) on the Scottish mainland.

This 90 minute crossing is a great introduction to Orkney, passing the famous landmark of the Old Man of Hoy and the towering red sandstone cliffs of Hoy Island.

On your way to the ferry port of Scrabster, you could consider driving up through Scotland, stopping to explore some other attractions in the Highlands.

Or you may prefer to make use of the frequent bus and train connections via Inverness, which allow you to sit back and relax, while the magnificent Highland scenery passes by your window.

Alternatively, you can fly to Orkney with connecting services from all major UK airports.
