How to get there
Car ferries operate from Portsmouth - Fishbourne (Wightlink) and Southampton - East Cowes (Red Funnel). Check the websites to see up to date prices. The car journey from East Cowes or Fishbourne to Shanklin are of similar distance.
Foot passengers are recommended to travel by train to Portsmouth Harbour and the Fast Cat service (Wightlink) from Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde which normally connects to the Island Train service to Shanklin. The train station at Shanklin is about 12 minutes walk to Little Gem in the Old Village of Shanklin.

Getting around
The bus service on the Island is reliable and cover the whole of the Island. You can get a day Rover ticket or a weekly Rover ticket. From our apartment there is a summer bus service that operates to West Wight without having to change in Newport. (Island Breezer). You can check the up to date bus services on the Vectis Buses Isle of Wight website. Shanklin train station is about 12 mins walk from the apartment and a very reliable service from Ryde to Shanklin. There are beautiful costal walks around here taking the cliff walk to Ventnor and beyond or to Yaverland. There are kiosks en-route for refreshments. Also, there are picturesque country walks across the Downs to Ventnor or Godshill that lead you to some beautiful eating places.
