How to get there
From Ashbourne
Take the B5035 from Ashbourne towards Wirksworth. Follow the Brown tourist signs to Carsington Water.
From Derby
At A38, Markeaton Island (ESSO Garage and Drive-Thru McDonalds), then take the A52 to Ashbourne (approx. 10 miles) At Ashbourne roundabout follow the Brown tourist signs to Carsington Water.
From M1 (South)
Leave M1 at junction 25, and follow A52 to Derby City Centre. On approaching Derby, continue following to City Centre. follow signs for A52 Ashbourne, coming out of Derby on Friargate. Continue to Markeatonm Island. Follow directions as above from Derby.
From M6
Take exit for Stoke-on-Trent. Follow A50. Exit for Derby – Toyota’s Burnaston Plant. Follow A38 to Markeaton Island. Follow directions as above.

Getting around
The pretty market town of Wirksworth is located less than 5 minutes drive away where you can find Le Mistral Bistro, various pubs and a selection of takeaways. The Old Gate at Brassington offering fantastic food is a 25 minute walk across the moor with stunning views of the Lake en route. The red Lion at Hognaston is also a 25 minute walk , again serving great food. There are numerous other good pubs serving food within a 5 minute drive. The house is situated right on the circular route around Carsington water and cycle hire, kayaking, sailing, bird watching and fly fishing are all available from the visitors centre 2 miles away. The area is ideally suited for walkers and cyclists with a great selection of trails.
