How to get there

The Isle of Wight is easy to get to, and once you are here you won't want to leave! It is, for example, less than an hour and half's journey from London by train and ferry, and is ideally located for British visitors looking for a holiday or short break, and easy to reach from all the major UK airports for foreign visitors. Up to 200 Isle of Wight ferry crossings a day operate from Portsmouth, Southampton and Lymington. Main links operate for passengers into 5 different Island towns - Ryde, Cowes, East Cowes, Fishbourne and Yarmouth - the latter 3 services also carry vehicles. It is quite possible to manage without a car on the Island as it has a very good bus/train network, including a bus stop close to the site entrance.

Getting around

The diamond shaped Isle of Wight measures just 23 miles by 13 miles, and has 57 miles of beautiful coastline. It is also England's largest island. The Island has over 477 miles of roadways and over 500 miles of pathways and cycleways. There are also 203 scheduled monuments, 60 ancient monuments and 1910 listed buildings. The Military Road (A3055) has been voted in the top 10 of best scenic roads in the UK. It runs from Chale to Freshwater Bay, and runs almost along the cliff edge with the sea to one side, rolling Downs on the other. At high points you can see the whole coast all around you.
