Lombardy and Milan will be the centre of Expo 2015

Mantova Town

Mantua is famous for its history, landscape and food.

Mantua history is linked with the Gonzaga family, that ruled the town from 1328 to 1708, first as landholders, then became dukes of Mantua, allied and often related to Empire and Papacy, Venice and Ferrara. During their period greatest artists , such as Donatello, Rubens, Pisanello, Mantegna, Leon Battista Alberti worked there, leaving great masterpieces. This is one of the reason why, in 2008, Mantova and Sabbioneta were elected a Unesco World Heritage site.

Mantuan landscape is very beautiful, varying from hills, green plains, rivers and canals

You will surely be in love with Isola Boschina, a woody island in the lower course of Po river, or with the Mincio River Natural Park.

Furthermore you wil be delighted by the great choice of typical food products: the famous Parmigiano Reggiano and Grana Padano produced by local caseifici, rice Vialone nano, Lambrusco wine, Mantuan salami and sausages produced by sorroundings farms. Excellent dishes are made with this typical Lombard products.

By car Mantua can be easily reached from the A4 (Milan-Venice) Highway to Verona, and from there Highway A22 (Brennero-Modena). The closest airport is Verona-Villafranca.

Mantua its the ideal location for a visit to many other towns and sites in Northern Italy. Within 100 km you can reach Verona, Garda Lake, Modena, Reggio Emilia, Parma, Bologna, Ferrara, Cremona, Piacenza, Brescia and Vicenza.

The tourist cycle track that runs between Mantua and Garda is extremely beautiful in landscape and surrounding nature, but also from a historical and cultural point of view.
