The Algarve region

The Algarve is well known for its golf courses and also for the many beautiful fishing villages - and hence, of course, for the seafood, which is delicious. The Atlantic location means although very hot in June, July and August, the heat is not overpowering. The climate remains warm in Spring and Autumn, and even in winter you get warm days. The old town of Tavira is 10 minutes away by car, you can also get there by the regular bus service, the town is very picturesque and a proper working town rather than a purpose made tourist trap, it is regarded by many as the best town on the Algarve with lots of architectural interest and a vibrant bar and restaurant scene. The Tavira Grand Plaza Shopping centre is now open with over 50 shops 20 restaurants and 4 cinemas. The Spanish border is just 15 minutes away by car or via the Ferry across the river from the lovely border town of Vila Real Santo Antonio to the very pretty town of Ayemonte, a perfect day out.

Manta Rota

The beach at Manta Rota is known as the top holiday destination for the residents of Portugal. It's seemingly endless soft white sandy beaches offer acres of space for sunbathing while the gently sloping shoreline beckons you into gently lapping waves. Water sports include surfing, canoes and pedalos, and for those looking for a little more excitement, why not try a spot of kite surfing! The village offers a variety of supermarkets, shops and gift shops, with the beach area being occupied by craft fairs and markets for much of the year. If you fancy eating out then look no further; a fine range of restaurants offering local cuisine, and options from around the world can be found locally. Getting around is easy with a great bus service and railway available on the doorstep, with routes along the length of the Algarve and into Spain if that is what you desire. You can hire a car locally if you wish to travel at your own pace or simply come and enjoy the surroundings right here.

"Relaxing and enjoyable holiday"

We have just returned from a week's holiday at Joyce and Adrian's villa in Manta Rota. We hired a car from Faro Airport and would recommend that a car is needed if you wanted to travel further afield from Manta Rota. Adrian provided detailed instructions of how to find the villa, it took us approximately 45 minutes to find it (and that was at 10pm in the evening). We also took our Sat Nav which worked just fine.

Upon arrival at the villa we were pleasantly surprised at how clean and well presented the villa was, the kitchen provided all utensils and crockery we could wish for. The pool was equally as lovely, and there were buckets, spades, arm bands, inflatable's and games available for our use. We only went to Manta Rota beach once and only stayed a short time as the children wanted to go back to the pool! The beach is beautiful but is approximately a 15 minute walk (with young children), our children preferred to splash around in the swimming pool.

Manta Rota itself we found to be a friendly place, but quite quiet so we ventured off to neighbouring towns Tavira and Vila Real de Santo Antonio in the evenings where we found some really nice restaurants and sightseeing.

We took the Children to Slide and Splash twice during the week, where we all had great fun. I would recommend going on a Sunday as it was much much quieter than the Wednesday.

We all had a wonderful relaxing holiday and would defiantly go back again.

Just wanted to tell you how very much we loved your villa and the environs, and what a great help Catherine was throughout the week (mostly in getting rid of the wasps, but also in providing direction… More
