Home description
The house sits in the heart of the countryside yet only a short cycle ride to the boulangerie, butcher's and mini grocery shop and the larger market town of Aigre with it's regular markets is only ten minutes drive. Cognac and La Rochelle are great places to visit as are the beaches at Royan.
The pool and garden are enclosed making it safe for children and there is a large open barn under which a late night game of table tennis can be played or you can enjoy a leisurely evening meal eating and drinking al fresco under the stars. The summer nights are hot and balmy and you can just sit back and relax and enjoy the warmth.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente region
This region is said to be the second warmest after the Cote d'Azure and certainly when the sun is shining you will find an incredible warmth which lasts late into the evening. The area is rich in romanesque architecture and chateaux. Our village has its own small chateau and 13th century church. The house is well placed for visiting other regions. You could visit the vineyards of Bordeaux or St Emilion, the brandy houses in Cognac and Jarnac, the beach at Royan, a visit to La Rochelle, the 2000 year old cave paintings and much much more. You will find a plethora of information at the house which provides information about a multitude of things to see and do for all age groups.
Mansle / Barbezieres area
There are festivals organised throughout the year in and around the Charente. The local area also organises a programme of events throughout the summer holidays for children and adults and you are free to join in with any of the activities if you wish. I can obtain a programme and let you have a copy prior to your visit.
Shopping at the markets is commonplace in France and you will find that you can buy fresh fish, mussels, scallops etc. from the fish market, a variety of cheeses from the cheese stall and fresh vegetables and flowers are in abundance. Again, I will provide further information before your holiday. travel.

Guestbook for La Maison Charentaise
5/5 The perfect place for a relaxing family holiday doncaster. Date Submitted to different website: September 02, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008 We were delighted with this french farmhouse on the edge of Barazieres. It was very clean and really well maintained and decorated..The outside barn was fab for eating outside in the shade, followed by a table tennis tornament or even a swim in the pool. The surrounding farmland of sunflower fields and vineyards were really lovely and could be enjoyed on a bike ride .Cognac was well worth the visit as was La Rochelle .But if you just wanted to stay at home there were plenty of sun loungers and also a really big garden for games of rounders. Overall this property was beautiful .I would reccommend this property to anyone who needs to unwind, Recommended for: Families with Young Children, Age 55+
We have just got back from a fantastic 2 weeks at Barbezieres ... The house is great and everyone loved it. The kids really enjoyed using the pool as did the adults. The bikes were great for an early morning bike ride to the bakery at Verdille, which was made most mornings. (not by myself though) We also had lots of table tennis competitions between the kids and adults, we have all improved lots as most of us had never even played before. August 2007 (They enjoyed the holiday so much they asked about availability for the following summer)
Thank you for returning our deposit cheque. I meant to email you sooner, but you soon get caught up in work and the usual activites........... I wanted to let you know what a lovely week we spent in your delightful farmhouse. It was so peaceful and relaxing. The surrounding countryside is beautiful. We came to look forward to our daily cycle to buy bread and croissants! Your restaurant recommendations were also very helpful, particularly the one by the river at La Chapelle. We were so fortunate that the weather improved, although I have to admit I was the only one not to brave the pool. It certainly looked very inviting! Our first visitors in 2006
