My father bought the cottage in 1979 when he retired from farming and lived in it till 2008. It is in a Victorian terrace of four,in the heart of Manorbier, 5 miles west of Tenby and although it looks small from the front is in fact very roomy. It has been entirely refurbished, including building on an architect designed kitchen/diner/sitting room ideal for holiday living. The area has a mass of beaches including Manorbier which is a 2 - 3 minute walk. There are many places to visit from castles, islands and interesting old houses to magnificent cliff walks (the coast path goes across the beach), stacks covered in sea birds, cliff chapels, the Presceli Mountains and St. David's Cathedral. Fishing can be arranged not far away, either coarse or fly fishing whichever appeals. The village has a cafe, castle, post office, pub and hotel.
Carew cottage has one double bedroom with a king-size bed on the ground floor with a wet room which serves that bedroom and is also useful for coming in from the beach and showering off sand, etc.
There is a utility room, a sitting room with an open fire and a new 11.5 metre kitchen/dining/sitting room at the back of the house, leading into the garden via french windows and a terrace.
Upstairs, the 3 bedrooms all have twin beds. One has an en suite shower room, with shower, loo and basin, and the other two bedrooms share the bathroom
The cottage has gas CH and HW, a brand new kitchen, Sky television, (Documentaries & Kids Channels) a DVD and video player, CD player, radio and Wifi. there is a washer/dryer, fridge-freezer, two electric ovens, gas hob, microwave and dishwasher, iron and ironing board and two hair dryers. All linen is supplied and beds made up.
I regret there is no wheelchair access at present. There is one step into the house at the front and one at the back and onto the terrace. There is also a small step into the wet room on the ground floor.
An Access Statement is available on application to the owner.
The Tenants' Book in the house contains much local information: places to visit, details of walks, restaurants, supermarkets, local facilities, etc.
The local Londis shop/post office in the village will deliver groceries and their details plus those of the local Tesco Supermarket
Dogs are welcome at Carew Cottage, up to two per booking. There is no charge for one dog, and a charge of £15 for the second one.
See the Availability & Prices page on the website for more details.

The cottage has a staircase up to three of the bedrooms but the fourth is on the ground floor. There is a step up from the parking space outside to the front door and a small step from the hall into the wet room. Also from the terrace onto the lawn is a step and many steps down to the store room at the bottom of the garden and the back gate.
Garden is mentioned above, it is very pleasant, has a patio with attractive metal table and 4 chairs, a lawn and a pretty border, there are further deck chairs & directors chairs around for garden use in fine weather. There is a barbecue.
There is parking for one (up to the largest type) car outside the front door and parking in the village for further cars. At the bottom of the garden is a store room which has two kennels which can be used if required.
Important notes on accommodation
The cottage has been designed for holidays, but also for comfort. The kitchen/diner/sitting room has a user friendly floor entirely suitable for small children, looks like wood but is in fact Karndean (like Amtico), the rest of the cottage has rugs and painted floors, apart from the bathroom/shower rooms which are tiled. There is a terrace just outside the kitchen/diner/sitting room french doors & lawn beyond that. The garden is a cottage garden, is very pretty with borders and lawn. It is expected that most people staying there will spend far more time on the beach or coastal paths rather than in the garden but nevertheless it is very pleasant place to sit. It is enclosed so safe for children, as long as the back gate is kept locked, but care should be taken with the steps down to the back gate. There is a tool shed at the bottom of the garden and a store room for surf boards etc. with running water.

The Pembrokeshire region
About the area
Manorbier beach is 2 - 3 minutes walk from the cottage. It is a good surfing beach and has interest for all ages. Mainly sandy but with a mass of rock pools for children looking for crabs etc., and a freshwater stream for making dams. Full of entertainment. There are masses of beaches within a 10 mile radius of the cottage.
There are details about golf courses in the cottage with telephone numbers, etc. and on the owners website (see link below). There is one in Lydstep about two miles from Manorbier and 2 in Tenby (5 miles), and there are many others around the county. All details are also in the tenants information book in the cottage.
The cottage is in the centre of Manorbier village. Tenby is 5 miles, with a beautiful harbour and 2 huge beaches. Both are on the southern edge of the Pembrokeshire Coast. The cottage is in the Conservation Area & the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The Coastal Path runs across the beach and the cliffs are awe inspiring. Barafundle Beach is about 7 miles by car, & a beautiful cliff walk, has been much written up as the most unspoilt beach in the UK. Castles, walks, beaches, all close by.
Manorbier village has a very good Londis Shop/Post Office, and there is a very good cafe next door to the cottage. Manorbier Castle has a tea shop & it is very interesting to go round. There is a list of restaurants in the tenants book and details of supermarkets and places of interest on the owners website (see link below) and in the tenants book in the cottage.

"Spacious and charming cottage in great location for family holiday"
We really enjoyed our week in this very spacious and well-equipped cottage, which also has bags of character and a pretty garden. It was plenty big enough for 9 of us (including grandparents and 3 youngsters under 6 - one of whom slept on an airbed in the front sitting room which worked well). The bedrooms and bathrooms were all a good size (with brand new carpets upstairs) and there is a great extended kitchen/dining/living area at the back of the cottage. There are many interesting pictures and ornaments in the cottage which give a sense of family history (although we had to move a few out of reach of the children)! Parking was not a problem - in addition to the space outside the cottage there were other FOC spaces within a couple of minutes' walk. Carew cottage is really well located (next to a tea shop and moments from a pub and small hotel) for exploring Manorbier including the castle and cliff-top walks. Unfortunately the sandy beach had been affected by the recent storms but the wider area has some stunning coastal scenery and great beaches (Barafundle, Broad Haven, Stackpole and Tenby). Also very convenient for visiting Pembroke Castle, Folly Farm and other family outings. The property owner was very accommodating and helpful and we would certainly recommend.
