There's something truly special about the island of Cyprus that few can define. Yet it has a magnetic lure of mythic aptitude that has been beckoning visitors here for centuries!
Cyprus lies in the Eastern Mediterranean and is a land of stunning natural beauty and rich heritage. The island enjoys glorious summery weather all year round, giving rise to its relaxed outdoor lifestyle.
Far reaching sandy beaches and pebble bays bordering clear turquoise waters fringe the island's breathtaking coastline. The magnificent Troodos Mountains' emerald green slopes are flecked with colorful wild flowers in spring and are iced with snowy caps in the few cooler months of the year.
Cyprus is a thriving holiday destination, with modern coastal resorts that provide endless entertainment for holidaymakers and residents alike. In recent years, many have decided to turn their ultimate holiday experience into a way of life by relocating to Cyprus.
The transition is a smooth one as English is widely spoken, Cypriots drive on the left and even the legal system is based on the British one. An added benefit is that Cyprus is a full EU member, making it simple to live and work here.
At first glance, present-day life in Cyprus seems a far cry from the straightforward conventions of yesteryear, with its international shops and facilities, however, many traditions still prevail. Nestled high in vine-clad hillsides are quaint villages, seemingly fixed in ways from years gone by. Age-old crafts including weaving, embroidery, lace making and silversmith are still widely practiced.
Traces of the island's long and intriguing history are still prominent, from ancient castles and amphitheatres to tombs and monasteries. Discoveries about Cyprus' past are constantly being made as new finds are revealed. Recently there has been speculation that Cyprus could be right beside the lost city of Atlantis!
In essence, the attraction to Cyprus is surely the same as it has always been. There are so many different aspects to the island that there really is something for everyone to enjoy! From its temperate climate and dramatic landscape, to its sun-drenched cuisine, friendly people and beguiling antiquity. Often described as 'an island of contrasts', Cyprus is just that, and that's just what makes it so irresistible to so many! Well, perhaps that and a little of the island's own mysterious alchemy!
The Mandria / Aphrodite Sands area
As you enter the village of Mandria, you are met with a shady tree lined street with large pine trees on both sides and citrus groves directly behind. You immediately notice how different this village is from others in Cyprus. The village square is still small but is usually packed with locals and foreign residents that regularly patronize the six popular village taverns. Almost anyone that has stayed in the Paphos district for some time knows about the delicious food they serve and the live entertainment on the weekends. Mandria has to be one of the hottest areas to buy property in Cyprus at the moment. The growing popularity of the village is apparent.
The small village sits peacefully nestled on the Mediterranean Sea, only 15 minutes outside of Paphos, 5 minutes from the Paphos airport and 25 minutes away from Limassol.
Mandria is attracting a greater number of people because it still has so much undeveloped land on the coast. There are acres of land being farmed by Cypriot refugees who owned land in the occupied north. They now lease the land from the government to farm. This provides the village with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables year round. As you walk around the village the quiet roads, paths and beach front trails are surrounded by orange, lemon, fig and prickly pear trees in addition to potatoes, cucumbers, onions and even peanuts. Every year the village has its festive, annual peanut festival with lots of fresh and traditional Cypriot food, drinks and of course peanuts!
The village has numerous nice walking paths that range from hilly side streets to beach front trails. In Cyprus, there are not always paved paths to use jogging strollers or roller blades however in Mandria, although these things are a novelty, they are used by residents. Bicyclists often travel through Mandria and stop at one of the local taverns. You will see children freely walking and playing in the village and residents walking their dogs and chatting with locals. There is a sense of community and it shows through the pride of ownership the residents display in their homes.
All amenities are fairly close to Mandria there is now a super large supermarket on the main road just outside of Mandria offering fresh produce daily, also the American Academy School is less than 5 minutes away. In Mandria there are services such as a community centre, church, postal services, 2 kiosks, patisserie, beauty salon/spa, Junior Elementary school and a petrol station and also plans for a new Marina in Mandria Bay.
The village is nice mix of old time charm and modernism that makes it a unique and a popular place to live. So if you are thinking of relocating in Cyprus or moving to our wonderful island make sure you pass through Mandria and experience it firsthand. It's a destination not to be missed.
Aphrodite Sands Resort is a brand new stunning signature development built for the more discerning holiday maker located in the beautiful Cypriot village of Mandria away from the hustle and bustle of Paphos. Set in its own private exclusive landscaped gardens and boasting first class on-site facilities, Aphrodite Sands provides its visitors with everything they could ever wish for.

We stayed at Aphrodite Sands from the 23rd to 30th Sept and had a fantastic stay. Firstly the Apt was brilliant far better than the pictures showed and they looked great!!!!. A spacious modern facility with loads of room. The rooms were very spacious and air con worked like a dream. Lounge and dining area also fab and a big balcony overlooking the pool and complex.Jacuzzi under the pool was brill. Finishing with the kitchen excellent appliances loads of utensils crockery etc attention to detail with the holidaymaker in mind. We hired a car but with the bus services we could quite easily have done without also the village of Mandria was lovely a one to two mins walk to the shop tavernas etc . Beware the fish and chips at the restaurant it was the biggest fish and chips ive ever seen fresh as well. Closing with the beach it was a ten min walk totally deserted pebble and a little sand not for kids though more ideal for a stroll and stop off as opposed to a sunbathe although you can water gets deep quickly but picture postcard. Finally thanks to Jayne for a lovely unobtrusive holiday i cannot speak highly enough of the place please go you ll love it the only fault was having to go home . Five stars well deserved in my humble opinion be back soon |
