The County Cork region

If you haven't yet experienced the hidden gems of the Blackwater Valley then your missing out on the myriad attractions and activities this beautiful, unspoilt area has to offer.

For adrenaline seekers experience all the thrills of the hills as you go mountain biking on the Ballyhouras, Ireland's very first dedicated mountain biking centre, or book in for action packed activities at Ballyhass Lakes including kayaking, rock climbing and archery.

For history buffs the Blackwater Valley Heritage Trail, with its 22 heritage sites including the 3,500 year old megalithic tomb at Labbacallee, is an absolute must see. Visit the interactive exhibition on the history of the Blackwater Valley at the Nano Nagle Centre for heritage, spirituality and ecology.

Of, if you'd prefer a spot of fishing, the salmon and trout fishing on the River Blackwater, Funcheon, Awbeg will catch the fancy of even the most ardent angler.

One of the best ways to soak up the beauty of this magical valley, and the warmth and hospitality of its people, is on foot. There is a wide array of walkways to choose from including the famous Blackwater Way itself or one of the numerous looped walks in the valley. For all the fun of the track visit Cork Racecourse, Mallow where there is a lot more going on than just racing.
