The Provence region
Provence is well known for its beautiful countryside, lovely cheap meals and wine. Visit the many wine producers, taste and buy direct from them; You can also visit the many olive oil producers to do the same thing! The olive oil is fragrant and fruity.
Pont Royal is situated between the historical towns of Avignon and Aix en Provence. Aix is a vibrant university city and has many museums, art galleris and places connected to their famous painter Cezanne. Picasso is buried just outside at his chateau of Vauverneges. Or sit and rink a coffee or glass of wine in Cours Mirabeau and watch the world go by!
In Avignon, you find the famous Palais de Papes where the Popes took up residence on leaving Rome many years ago - a unique building right in the centre of this bautiful town. Take a boat down the river and have diner at the sme time. Or just have lunch in the Place de l'horloge next to the Opera building and the ornate Town Hall.
In addition take the car and explore. Don't miss St Remy de Provence, Les Baux de Provence where Prince Albert of Monaco is still the lawful Seigneur, the Luberon villages of Bonnieux, Lacoste, Menerbes etc etc.
