The Brittany region

The Morbihan region is a beautiful area full of character, and the area near the coast has wonderful beaches, rock pools and beaches include Damgan, Penerf, Carnac, Quiberon, Guidel. There are several islands to be visited off the coast including the Belle Isle. Baot trips are possible. Vannes and Quiberon can access them easily.

Fendrement is 5 miles from Malestroit, an old market town which has some great old quarters and gabled merchants houses of stone and timber with a pleasant market with local products on Thursdays. The old Church in the town is 12th century.

Local food includes lovely sea food and crepes which are buck wheat savoury pancakes, often an all in one meal with much included. Cider is locally the best drink but wine is cheap and plentiful of course!

Rochefort-en-Terre is one of France's most picturesque villages, with a castle, old Church and many shops for local products and gift shopping. The flowers are stunning in the summer and there are many artists in the village.

Vannes is the medieval port city which is only 35 mins drive away and has an old port area, Cathedral, walled gardens, many shops and good market on Satruday and Wednesday.

There are plenty of music events on and Music by the Canal on each Friday evening in the July and August summer season is great fun with a differing band playing each week. The locals and tourists fill the market sqaure and it is all free, with local restaurants filling up and the bars are also very busy !

Malestroit

The area is full of quaint villages, valleys and the hamlet of Fendrement is right by the River Clai. Fishing permits are available weekly and also daily for fishing in the Nantes Brest Canal, the River and local lakes. There are king fishers along the Canal banks, frogs and river wild life is plentiful.

There is a great Resistance Museum near Malestroit and also a wonderful Eco Museum with many items from local life and a fab collection of toys we can all remember.

Josselin is an easy half hour drive away and has a fabulous Chateau which can be visited and also great bars and restaurants. La Gacilly is also a lovely local town just 25 mins drive away with local Artisans in many shops.

There is a wonderful local market at Questembert which also has a very old roofed wooden building to protect the stalls from rain
