Home description

Attractive self contained one bedroom apartment finished in the traditional Cretan style; offering peace andtranquillity, yet ideally located in the rural outskirts of the charming and lively village of Makrigialos. The apartments are all one bedroom with either a sofa bed or folding bed so can sleep up to three. An additional cot can be arranged for visitors with small children.

Apartments to the rear overlook tranquil olive groves, those to the front benefit from afternoon sun and country views, all just a few minutes walk through olive groves from the blue waters and sandy cove of Daskari! The village of Makrigialos is approx 10-15 minutes walk or a short drive away and local buses run to the end of the road from the village.

The Crete region

Crete is beautiful. Visit the capital city, Iraklion and see the fortress and Venetian walls. Take in the wonderful coastal scenes and enjoy the peaceful rugged landscape. This lovely island is full of history and culture. Great for beaches and sunbathing, walks, bird watching, visiting ancient sites, and the local wines and olive oils.

Makrigialos area

Eliana Apartments are located within the olive groves outside the village of Makrigialos on the South East coast of Crete, with 45 minutes travelling time to the proposed site for a major golf complex, encompassing hotels, residential and international tourist amenities, whilst maintaining it's rural aspect. Makrigialos is approximately 30 minutes from Sitia - a large provincial town. Sitia airport is extending it's international destinations for 2006/7.

Makrigialos is a thriving village with many tavernas to choose from, as well as a butcher, supermarkets and a patisserie to rival those found on the Cote D'azur! It is lovely to sit by the picturesque harbour, watching the brightly coloured fishing boats return with their catch in the late afternoon sun, sipping a local beer or coffee and enjoying the sun setting on the long sandy beach of Makrigialos

There is an excellent and reliable bus service to Sitia and Irepetra. Boat trips around the area should not be missed. The sea is warm, clear and safe, with a large choice of beaches (including naturist!). There is quite a large expat community and most locals speak English to some degree.

How to get there

- Flights available from Heathrow, Gatwick, Bristol, Glasgow, Cardiff etc direct to Heraklion in Crete from May - Oct.. Outside of these months a change in Athens to catch a 50 min flight to Heraklion is needed. Limited flights also go to Sitia in Crete which is approx 25 mins drive to apartments.

- Cheap flights can be obtained from: www.ba.com, www.justtheflight.co.uk, www.dialaflight.com, www.olympic-airways.com and many charter airlines during the holiday season.

- Buses go direct regularly from Heraklion airport to Ierapetra. Transfer time 2.5 hours. Cost Aproxx 9 Euros. A further bus cn then be caught to Makrigialos transfer time 30 mins, cost approx 3 Euros.

- Pick Up from the airport can be arranged, transfer time approx 2.5 hours. Please contact owner for further details and pricing.

- Car hire is available from all major firms at Heraklion airport.
