The contemporary lounge area incorporates a corner sofa full of scatter cushions and modern home furnishings from which you can enjoy views out to sea or chill in front of the wall mounted TV/DVD combo, enjoying a choice from the selection of films we keep there for you. The sofa extends easily to create a sturdy double bed. The complex also enjoys the benefit of free WiFi to keep in touch with the outside world when all around is just peace and tranquility.

The Crete region

The Eastern Crete Experience and Makrygialos

Eastern Crete bears no resemblance to the party villages of the North. Prepare to enter the real Crete, where mountain villages lead down to sleepy village resorts and perfectly isolated beaches. It is the "natural Crete" where beautiful mountains meet crystal clear, azure tranquil lagoons. You can certainly bank on perfect sunshine for your choice of local beaches or the many secluded coves just a little further away by car. Our favourite is 5 minutes away by car, the perfect Diaskari beach with its gently shelving waters and its perfect taverna where we sit under an ancient tree and enjoy the local delicacies or the fresh fish harvested from its very own nets. Visit the main beach of the resort if you like watersports- our kids love the jet skis, doughnuts and mattress and all are reasonably priced.

A car is an absolute essential if you are to really benefit from this gorgeous scenery- and the route over from Heraklion or Sitia airports themselves really sets your heart racing as you pass azure bays and rise past quaint Greek villages. The mountain villages surrounding Makrygialos are the 'true' Greece, where unspoiled tavernas nestle amongst olive trees and where the locals gather in their families and watch time tick slowly by. Make sure you sample the olives and the local wine, often harvested by the owners themselves- perfect ingredients for perfect days. Many owners head towards the Makrygialos beach front at night, where many of its reasonably priced restaurants sit alongside the gently lapping waters- a fabulous night out.

Ierepetra and Sitia are both worth a visit for a little more bustling, port-side activity and some retail therapy. For the more active on foot, there are plenty of local gorges to explore or ancient archeological or religious sites to visit, all only a short drive away.

Makrigialos

Bayview Resort

Bayview Resort nestles at the foot of the mountains on the sites of former goat herders- yet it brings elegance and modern day, low-rise luxury to this unspoiled area. Phases One and Two share two exquisite pools and are nestled in peaceful, landscaped gardens. The resort is perfectly maintained with onsite management team who can assist you should you need anything. Bayview enjoys excellent access to the perfect Lagada Beach if you need a break from the pool, but, in essence, it is the perfect place to chill and relax in gorgeous, tranquil and safe surroundings. The resort is situated just a few minutes drive from Makrygialos- a typical, quaint Cretan seaside village with friendly locals. Although typically Greek, it will have anything you might need in the local supermarkets and gift shops so is fantastically convenient and also had handy ATMs for holiday money.
