About the home

The apartment has been recently been renovated to a high standard and benefits from stunning views across the Gorge to the village of Grisola. The apartment boasts a spacious double bedroom with a four poster bed, a second bedroom with twin beds, a fully functional kitchen with dining table and a stylish bathroom with large shower.

Perched above the Mediterranean Sea on a magnificent Gorge in the Pollino National Park, where you can trek, climb or white water raft, you will find the picturesque village of Maiera. This 'Centro Storico' has a magical feel and strong sense of history.

Artworks and murals painted on the walls create unexpected bursts of colour and the village has a real sleepy almost dreamy feel to it, the ideal place to get away from it all.

The beaches are just a 6 minute drive down the winding road as well as the villages of Cirella and Diamante where you will find typical Italian bars, restaurants and shops. This is a taste of real Italy and an experience not to be missed!

Bedroom 1 has a double four poster bed and magnificent view overlooking gorge and bedroom 2 has two single beds with same amazing views across gorge to Maiera's sister town Grisolia.

The kitchen is fully equipped with gas hob, pots pans, coffee maker, wine glasses etc..

Bathroom towels and Linen is provided.

There is a small outside porch area at the front of the apartment, 2 outside chairs are provided, this overlooks the village and the sea.

Please note that because of Maiera's position set high on a gorge the village has a lot of narrow and steep winding steps you will need to climb these steps to get to the apartment from the car parking area. Car hire is strongly recommended. All children are welcome and the apartment is child friendly, however bear in mind that the apartment is situated at the top of a gorge and there are many steps which is why we have ticked not suitable for children under 5.

Conditions

25% non refundable deposit on booking and full payment 30 days before arrival.

£40 refundable deposit for damages/damages to be refunded within 2 weeks of your departure from apartment (subject to satisfactory property inspection).

Please respect that there is no smoking in apartment.

The Southern Italy / Calabria region

Calabria has a reputation for harmony and welcome, the Calabresi are friendly and easygoing and the pace of life is slower and steadier, without the constant noise and trouble of big cities. It is a place of contrasts, with high mountain villages seemingly built on the sides of mountains in the interior to red roofed villas on the coast, clustered around an ancient castle or church.

Miles and miles of white sandy beaches and rocky coves and the crystal clear and clean waters of the Mediterranean/ Tyrrhenian Sea. A backdrop of stunning mountains, hiding quaint picturesque villages, ancient ruins, luxurious spas and ski lodges among their wooded lower slopes.

A perfect climate all year round in a region yet unspoilt by chain stores and mass tourism.

Canoeing and white water rafting are very popular activities on the famous white waters of Fiume Lao.
Treking in the Pollino National Park where you may see wildlife including the European grey wolf, wild cats, boars and the rare golden eagle.

The Isle of Dino -a marine sanctuary, you can take a boat trip out to the caves and grotto.

San Nicola Arcella - Caves, picturesque seaside village,
Maratea - marina and nice port, old world charm, lovely secluded beaches, Known as the ‘Jewel of Basilicata’,
Diamante - promenade, beach and pretty old town famous for its chillies and wall murals.
Cirella - a quiet beach and small village.
Papasidero - hilltown, cave paintings from bronze age, white water rafting and canoeing.
Cosenza - local city 1hr 15min drive, pretty old town.
Sicily is a 3hr drive south with a short 25 min ferry crossing. Naples, Pompei and Amalfi coast 2 hours.

The nearby town of Scalea boasts a bustling night-life with many shops, bars, cafes, restaurants and ice cream parlours, most of which are open both in Summer and Winter.

Cheap flights are available to Lamezia Terme airport (1½ hour to apartment) with Ryanair from Stansted or Thomsonfly from Gatwick or Manchester. You can also fly to Naples (2 1/2 hours) with BMI, BA Airways, First Choice, Myair.com, Thomsonfly and Virgin fly from from Luton, Gatwick, Heathrow, Standsted, Birmingham, East Midlands and others.

Car hire is essential.
