Bicknor Park Cottage
About the home
A superb, period cottage, recently renovated (completed June 2010) to a very high standard throughout. The former coach house to Bicknor Park, the cottage retains much of its original charm with fabulous light rooms and a comfortable, elegant interior.
Bicknor Park Cottage is set in a peaceful, secluded position accessed via a quiet country lane and set back down a long drive surrounded by woodland, pasture and the beautiful mature gardens of the main house. Whilst the cottage is immediately adjacent to the main house, it remains surprisingly private with the accommodation overlooking the courtyard, garden and paddock.
The cottage is nestled amidst the beautiful rolling countryside of the North Downs within the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A three minute walk from the cottage is the Hucking Estate, 600 acres of magnificent woodland and pasture maintained by the Woodland Trust offering excellent walking and fabulous views from the top of the North Downs across the Weald of Kent.

The South East England / Kent region
Kent is steeped in history and heritage and is also rightly renowned throughout the world as the Garden of England. The extensive coastline boasts an enviable array of blue flag award winning beaches and thrilling watersports activities.
Discover the captivating essence of the Garden of England wending along lanes past lavender fields, orchards, vineyards and oast houses. Be enriched by England's oldest county, alive with its exciting past: visiting Canterbury with Chaucer's pilgrims and Rochester with Dickens, following the maritime adventures that have shaped Kent from Roman invasion to World War II.
The Maidstone / Hucking area
The cottage offers the best of both worlds; situated in a peaceful location amidst the beautiful rolling countryside of rural Kent and yet within easy reach of pubs and restaurants. London is within very easy reach, just over an hour’s train journey from the local station at Hollingbourne, eight minutes’ drive from the house.
Archaeology enthusiasts can examine a host of interesting features, including an ancient drove road, woodbank and marl pits. The North Down’s Way is also easily accessible from the cottage. One of only 15 national trails chosen as they pass through our finest landscapes, it runs from Farnham in Surrey to Dover with a loop via Canterbury.
There is also excellent riding and cycling on the doorstep with ample bridleways, toll rides and country lanes to explore. Stabling and grazing can be provided at additional cost for anyone wishing to bring their own horses. The area is a golfer’s paradise with an incredible 102 courses within a 30 mile radius. Watersports fans are also well provided for with the Kent and Sussex coast within easy driving distance offering excellent sailing, kite-surfing and wind-surfing.
At the foot of the North Downs, the charming, historic village of Hollingbourne (1.8 miles from the cottage) offers a village shop and two pubs, one in particular serving excellent food. The Pilgrim’s Way is also accessible from Hollingbourne, where one can follow the historic route taken by pilgrims from Winchester to the shrine of Thomas Becket at Canterbury.
Also on the doorstep is Leeds Castle, more than deserving of its label as ‘the most beautiful castle in the world’ it was once the home of Henry VIII and provides a range of spectacular events throughout the year as well as a golf course and hot air balloon flights. Also nearby and well worth a visit are the delightful steam railways at Tenterden and Romney, Dover Castle with its secret wartime tunnels, Hever Castle the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, the historic town of Canterbury with its magnificent cathedrals as well as a wealth of other fabulous historic houses and castles including Knowle Park, Ightam Moat and Scotney Castle to name a few.
Kent is not known as the Garden of England for nothing and local produce, wine and beer are in abundance. Spend some time pottering around the beautiful Kentish countryside, dotted with oast houses and ancient villages with charming country pubs serving local beer and cider. Visit the highly-acclaimed vineyards at Chapledown, Lamberhurst and Biddenden, or the Shepherd & Neame Brewery, Britain’s oldest brewery. Head to the coast for fabulous fresh fish or to try the internationally-acclaimed Whitstable Oysters..
For something a little different, why not take the Eurostar from nearby Ashford for a day trip to Paris or Bruges, known as the Venice of the North and famous for its incredible Christmas markets. Alternatively,
Dover is only a 40 minute drive from the cottage and from here it is a leisurely trip by ferry or a 35 minute journey on the Eurotunnel across to France where one can spend the day and explore some of the charming old towns in Northern France, visiting traditional French markets and buying some delicious wine and cheese for dinner!
