About the home

The traditional architecture and authentic Creole environment where life unfolds quietly around the fish landing station give to the house a unique character and a cosy atmosphere. Life in Mahebourg is serene and easy going. Grocery shops, vegetable market, restaurants are within 5 minutes walk maximum. Fresh fish and live lobsters from the next door neighbour a professional fisherman. The house will suit those who dream of an out of ordinary holiday and who are prepared to live a creole village life close to the people of Mauritius ! Access to the most exclusive beach of Mauritius 2.5 kms. away.

- The services:

The maid shall be in attendance Monday to Saturday 9 a.m to 2 p.m. She does the cleaning, washing and ironing of the house linen ( washing of guest clothes included, ironing excluded ). She will prepare lunch or dinner in advance. She does not work Sundays and Public Holidays.

Her instructions from the owner are NOT to run errands for guests. Kindly refrain from asking her to do so.
However she will gladly accompany you to the market and assist in choosing local fruits and vegetables.
Baby-sitting available. Cost 3 euros per hour payable directly to the maid.The services of the maid are included in the rental rate. As a token of your appreciation a discretionary gratuity to her would be welcomed on departure.

There is a free telephone for local calls and for receiving international calls. For outgoing international calls use a prepaid card.

The Mauritius East Coast/Grand Port region

The East coast of Mauritius is where the island’s history started. The village of Mahébourg is a landmark of the history of Mauritius as the first Dutch settlers established their camps in the region.

The atmosphere in Mahébourg is lively, cheerful and friendly. The majority of its inhabitants are fishermen. Preserved from excessive development the village people are easy going. Smiles are still free of charge.
The bazaar is more authentic than the one in Port- Louis and the atmosphere of the fair on Mondays is unique.

Mahébourg hosts the Historic Naval Museum, Aigrettes Island Nature Reserve where the vegetation is 100 % endemic and the extraordinary Blue- Bay Marine Park.

The Beach….the most beautiful beach of Mauritius is 2.5 Kms. away in Ponite d’Esny, crystal clear emerald green lagoon, perfect swimming….unequalled in the island….!!! Simply cycle 10 minutes.

Blue- Bay Marine Park is 5 Kms. away…. Swim with the tropical fish, admire the magnificient coral in the best marine park of Mauritius.

AIGRETTES ISLAND NATURE RESERVE….will allow you to admire the pink pigeon and the kestrel in liberty, two birds species saved from extinction by the WORLD WILDLIFE FOUNDATION. Also rare specimens of endemic flora are to be seen.

THE NAVAL MUSEUM OF MAHEBOURG…3 minutes from the villa by bicycle…a show-case of the naval battle of VIEUX GRAND-PORT…very informative and well documented museum of the history of MAURITIUS, a visit not to be missed.

FERNEY NATURE RESERVE 15 minutes by car….walking trails in one of the last remaining indigenous forests.
BICUITERIE H.RAULT….2 kms away…a biscuit factory dating from 1870 and still operated by the same family invite you to a trip into the past. Sample the traditional biscuits.

LE JARDIN DE BEAU-VALLON…enjoy a meal in one of the few intact colonial houses of the island, 5 kilometres away from the villa.

RESTAURANTS….in the vicinity LES COPAINS D’ABORD, LA VIELLE ROUGE, LA BELLE CREOLE, BLUE BAMBOO and not to be missed LE PANORAMOUR and FALAISE ROUGE for their spectacular view of the whole lagoon and LE BARACHOIS for exceptional shell-fish.

THE LAGOON….simply the very best of MAURITIUS…trips in the lagoon in a fisherman’s traditional pirogue…picnic on L’ILE DE LA PASSE, a picturesque island on the reefs….day catamaran cruises in the lagoon to L’ILE AUX CERFS…unforgettable..!!
