The Puglia/Molise region

Salento Salento peninsula, Terra d' Otranto, the heel of Italy .... One would almost think that the inhabitants of this vast territory cozy and can suffer from an identity crisis ! But all these terms identify the same vast plain ( comprising the provinces of Lecce , in large part, Brindisi and Taranto ) that separates the two seas, the Ionian and Adriatic , which then meet in the far south , to our " Cape of Good hope "that the Santa Maria di Leuca.

Inside, the landscape is characterized by crops indeed, true expanses of olive groves interrupted only by low stone walls that surround the different properties and at the center of which there are the typical farms. In this glance stained by the dark green of the olive trees stand out of the towns , for their typical white coloration .

Continuing the theme of colors and chromaticity , affects the color of the sea: deep blue when viewed from the top of the cliffs overhanging the Adriatic side , emerald green and blue if the gaze turns from the long sandy beaches and ionic . Coasts that are also characterized by the frequent presence of towers built over the centuries.

Wander around the interior has its own charm , especially in the summer when the villages come alive with local festivals , then dedicated a day at the coast line from Otranto to Santa Maria di Leuca (view of the two seas from the square the lighthouse ) and its small towns , with the sinuous coastline rich in caves and coves. But do not you complete the encounter with the Salento Salento because different cultures have come and gone ( Roman, Byzantine, Romanesque , Gothic , messapica , Baroque ..... and all artistic and architectural heritage have left visible ) : curious tourists as good , I recommend you not to miss the appointment with the gastronomy simple but at the same time rich cuisine based on the products of the local countryside and seas that surround this land.

In this brief description, I have not even mentioned the people of Salento : the people were friendly, helpful , friendly character and never opened as you'd expect. Already this wealth alone would merit a trip to the land of Otranto.
