The Koh Samui region

Koh Samui is located in the Gulf of Thailand, it is approximately 21 km wide and 25 km long. It is surrounded by about sixty other islands, which make up the Ang Thong National Marine Park and include other well known destinations, such as Koh Phangan and Koh Tao.
The island has a very short 'Monsoon' season and is usually experienced between the end of October and goes into the middle of December, it is hot and humid most of the time and the tropical climate can result in some amazing thunderstorms. From around March through to October, temperatures regularly reach 35 Celsius. From July to October it sometimes rains off and on (it is the tropics after all!), but is still pleasant as the sun pokes through and rainbows are often seen. September and October can be nice times to visit as it is quieter and more often then not it is cheaper.
There is plenty to do and see whilst you are here, there are activities suitable for everyone, Scuba Diving, Fishing, Golf, Snorkelling, Bird shows , an Aquarium to name but a few.
There are very unique sights to see on the island as well, the 'Mummified Monk' at Wat Khunaram is something that you will not see every day and 'Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks' are a very unusual photo opportunity! Big Buddha sits proudly on a headland that you will see from above if you fly into Samui, here as tourists, locals and monks go about their business, side by side, you will most certainly get a flaour of local life.
There is a vibrant nightlife on Koh Samui, the main towns of Chaweng and Lamai have bars, nightclubs and shows galore, a holiday on the island would not be complete without a visit to one of the infamous 'ladyboy' shows, Las Vegas style entertainment in the heart of the island.
On a more practical side, Koh Samui has a variety of Banks and Cashpoints, Post Offices, Dentists, Opticians and 3 International Hospitals.
You may be considering a holiday with a 'difference'...Koh Samui is fast becoming well known for its excellent Cosmetic Surgery and Health treatments, have your treatment done (at a much more affordable cost and with exceptional health care) and then recuperate in the privacy of Villa 6...
More affordable Dentistry treatments are widely available throughout the island, just build appointments into your week and recover lying on the beach!
Thailand is known as the 'Land of Smiles' and for very good reason, the local people will extend you a welcome that is warm and friendly, many speak English and will be happy to help make your holiday a memorable one.
The Maenam area
Centred on the North coast, Maenam offers spectacular views of Ko Phangan to the North, and the Ang Thong National Marine Park to the East. The waters are calm and clean, being protected from north-easterly currents by Koh Phangan. Maenam is usually much less crowded than Lamai or Chaweng and Maenam's restaurants and bars still retain much of the local Thai flavour.
Although Maenam is quieter, more relaxed, with local Thai community still pretty much intact, there is a growing nightife, with plenty of bars and restaurants to visit during the evening.
During the day, if you can tear yourself away from the golden sands and clear blue waters of the beach, there are many shops in which to do your 'holiday' souvenir shopping, the choice is varied: Handmade jewellery, Clothing, unique items made from Coconut Wood, Beauty products and all manner of things for the kids! If you really want to get a local flavour, visit the daily market, where you will see many different sorts of cuisine...some you may recognize...some you may not!
You may be fortunate enough to be visiting Maenam when there is a 'Travelling Fair' in the village, these are always worth a visit, cheap clothes, shoes, household goods and of course food are there to buy....look closely at the food stalls though because a local delicacy are fried larvae and bugs...not for the faint hearted!
It is easy to reach the neighbouring island of Koh Phangan from Catamaran jetty at the very north of the beach and Scuba Diving/ Snorkelling trips to other nearby islands can also be easily arranged, the owners of Villa 6 are happy to assist with this.
If you go into the jungle, it only takes a 5 minute, 4 wheel drive to do this, where there are more adventurous things to do. You may want to try the canopy adventures, experience the thrill over travelling over the jungle canopy on a zip wire! Or trek through the jungle, getting a real island feel of the bountiful wildlife and amazing tropical surroundings.
If massages and beauty treatments are what you want, Maenam has a variety of spas and treatment centres, you can have a massage on the beach, or in a cosy local treatment centre or treat yourself even more and visit one of the hotels in the area, all of whom have spas on site...the choice is yours!
There is a stunning Chinese temple to see in the heart of this very unspolit village,as well as the just as beautiful Budhist temples throughout, where you are welcome to look around, just remember to dress respectfully and always take your shoes off before entering.
Last but not least, there are many restaurants to visit in the village, the menus are wide and varied, for example: road side noodle bars, eat all you like BBQ's, seafood restaurants on the waters edge, Italian restaurants and many, many serving a huge variety of traditional Thai cuisine...all at low prices!

I must start by saying we had the most amazing holiday in Thailand, this was made possible in the main by Lorraine clark who organised our accomodation in Koh Samui. The villa 6 is tucked away about 1km from the bustling town of Maenam with its lovely beach and assorted restaurants and shops. The villa itself is stunning, beautiful swimming pool, mature gardens and wonderful inside. we took advantage of hiring a 4 wheel drive vehicle directly from Lorraine and this was perfect for jungle trips or just to nip down to the supermarket. We were in Thailand for 3 weeks and in this time a few issues were bound to occur. I became ill after a few days and was feeling pretty poorly, in steps Lorraine with the solution, after a visit to the reccommended pharmacy and a proffesional diagnosis antibiotics were prescribed and the illness gone within 48 hours. Internet failure at the villa, resolved with a brand new router within hours. The benefit of having someone like Lorraine at the end of a phone is fabulous. The villa is amazing, the staff who clean the villa and mantain the gardens/swimming pool are such warm and friendly people. I would reccomend this villa 110%. We will return and hopefully very soon. Response: Thank you for your kind words and we look forward to seeing you again very soon:) Sunny smiles from the team at "Villa 6" |
Guestbook for Villa 6
Date of stay February 2010
Hi Lorraine and Tony,
I would just like to thank you both for such a wonderful time at your idyllic villa, what a wonderful relaxing time we had, the pool was great for that morning swim, afternoon and evening as well, the garden was very private, quiet and calm. The facilities of the villa were fantastic, not too far from the town and beach either, but just far enough for the seclusion and privacy.
Thank you for all you did for us, always there at the end of a phone incase needed, you both afforded us privacy, which was much appreciated.
I would recommend your villa to anyone who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of life, once again, thank you both very much, it was a pleasure to stay in Koh Samui.
Yours Mark,
.
Dates of stay: 27 Dec 2009 to 2 Jan 2010.
In one word, this villa is stunning!
As soon as you walk in through the front door, your first view is of this great expanse of living room stretching ahead front of you. It’s very impressive. So, too, are the lovely pool; the large patio area; all the showers (5 in total); and the gorgeous garden! Everything looks exactly as it does in the photographs.
As other reviewers have said, this place is beautifully laid-out both inside and out and, because it’s Lorraine and Tony’s home, it’s very well-equipped - and more importantly, everything works! Lorraine had thought of everything, providing us with a fully-stocked fridge and store-cupboard essentials like cooking oil, salt, pepper, and herbs. (It’s difficult having to lug these things around with you on flights and you don’t want to be buying them at every place you stay.) There was also a vast selection of noodles and snacks. She was simply fantastic – so friendly and nothing was too much trouble for her or Tony. She even hired us her car during our stay so that we could travel around the island!
I don’t know how Lorraine and Tony could bear to leave this piece of paradise but I’m very glad they did as we got the chance to live here for 6 days and nights. Our only complaint is that it wasn’t long enough!
We spent New Year’s Eve at a Reggae Bar we liked on the beautiful beach at Bophut. It had tables laid out on the fine powdery sand and we sat there watching the warm calm waters of the sea lapping in front of us, loads of Chinese lanterns being lit and sailing high up into the sky, and water taxis ferrying partygoers to and fro to Koh Phangan which lay immediately in front of us. Then at midnight, there was a splendid firework display. Bliss!
For restaurants, I recommend “The Shack” and the “Starfish and Coffee” in Bophut. The “Starfish” was my favourite – we ate there twice as I loved the décor, especially upstairs, and the food was good too. The second time we had booked in advance so we got a table on the balcony area overlooking the beach with the most superb views.
This was our first visit to Thailand and we stayed in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Koh Samui and Koh Chang. We all agreed that Samui was one of our favourite places and that Villa 6 was certainly the best place we stayed in. I want to go back there again for more of a chillout holiday sometime where we can eat leisurely dinners on the balcony, then watch some of the DVDs from the vast collection there.
If you want to sample a bit of Hollywood living, stay here – you’ll love it!

We are a South African family living in Kampala, Uganda. Villa 6 is on a different planet, very far away from chaotic and disorderly Kampala. We had 12 days of quietness, peace, serenity and tranquility. It was just perfect in every way. A BIG thank you Lorraine for your caring - especially thank you for the Christmas tree!.
We had, as a family, just the perfect holiday here, the villa is suitable for a King....We might be back!

We have had the most fabulous two weeks in Lorraine and Tony's villa, the holiday of a lifetime. We enjoyed days of peaceful relaxation beside the pool, taking the occasional dip and watching beautiful birds and butterflies flitting around the jungle garden. So theraputic.
The purpose for our visit to this beautiful island was to celebrate Carol's 50th birthday... unbeknown to her! Carl had all this planned and our son and daughter joined us in the second week, something else Carol knew nothing about! An emotional moment we will all remember was when Andrew and Lindsay turned up at the beach bar with a huge sign saying 'Happy Birthday' and a bouquet of flowers while Carol was blowing out her candles. Our thanks to Lorraine for collecting them from the airport and capturing this unforgettable day on camera, she really has been, in Lindsays words, 'An absolute star', and we all agree. Thank you so much Lorraine.
We doubt there could be anywhere that could match Koh Samui. The stunning spacious villa and beautiful pool in the most amazing location and nothing was too much trouble for Lorraine and Tony to make our holiday perfect. Of course Carl has now been awarded with 'The Husband of the Year Award!'
Thank you to you both, we sincerely hope to return again, there would be no point in going anywhere else now we've had a taste of perfection

"This house has everything anyone could want for a wonderful, relaxing holiday or a longer stay. It is beautifully laid out and furnished and well maintained. The huge master bedroom has a dressing room and an en-suite bathroom with a door to an outdoor Balinese shower on one side and another door out onto the pool-side. There are two further large bedrooms and a family bathroom. The swimming pool and gardens are simply superb. The house is close enough to the town of Maenam to be convenient for the shops, restaurants and bars, etc yet just far enough out to be quiet and peaceful. We loved the house and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there".
Roy - UK 2009
We have been to Koh Samui several times and have stayed at this lovely house ,it is spacious and very peaceful with beautiful front and back well kept gardens. The rooms are air conditioned and have pleasant outlooks also you can enjoy having an enjoyable meal by the swimming pool or just sit outside and listen to the various birds that fill the air with their songs. There are showers to the bathrooms and an outside shower for a rinse after a swim. The kitchen is very practical and there is a laundry room , I can recommend this place for a stress free time. There are shops within a few minutes and buses that are fun to ride.
he owners had this house built in a Balinese/ Thai way and have lived in Thailand for several years .They are very pleasant people and very friendly. We hope you have a nice stay.
Mrs Gurney - UK (December 2008)
My stay at the villa was extremely enjoyable. A real space of peace, set within a Spa like retreat. The area has a good selection of local shops, bars and restaurants, with a beach just minutes away. I will recommend this place to everyone who wants a fantastic holiday.
Cassie - UK (April 2009)
Within our 6 day stay we enjoyed a relaxing peaceful experience, seeing the local beaches, which are perfect and tatsing the excellent local cuisine. The house was all we could ask for, with the comfortable living area and inviting bedrooms and Spa like swimming pool. Peace. Privacy. Tranquility.
Katie - UK (April 2009)
From the moment we landed at Koh Samui open air airport we new this would be a very different holiday, the staff were helpful with lots of smiling faces and the atmosphere very relaxing.
We arrived at ' Villa 6 ' after a very enjoyable drive through the countryside.
The Villa 6 certainly had the " wow " factor surrounded by lush gardens and so peaceful.
The accommodation were very tastefully furnished and from the open plan lounge you looked out to the patio and a beautiful swimming pool where we enjoyed many candlelit dinners.
We hired a car and explored the island visiting many attractions also tucked away white sand beaches.
There are plenty of activities and good local restaurants also you can have a massage on the beach of which we both enjoyed.
The owners Lorraine and Tony Clark were very helpful in giving us information to help us enjoy a very different and enjoyable holiday.
