The Madrid region

The capital of Spain, established in 1562 as an administrative centre (not a sea port or river or border town!) in the centre of the country, has been a magnet to people from all corners of Spain since its founding and in recent years has drawn people from all corners of the world. The city vibrates on its own epicentre as a meeting place, a melting pot of Spain's many regions, and a centre of culture and nightlife.

A compact downtown area allows for walking to all major points of interest within 5-30 minutes of any downtown location. However, the subway system is amongst the world's most extensive and all-serving, not to mention newest.

Winters can be gray and rainy, cold and clammy, but also sunny and brisk. Daytime temperatures average 5-10 throughout the winter and 25-35 throughout the summer. Spring and fall are often short and erratic. There is a saying, which translated means "MADRID, 9 months of winter and 3 months of HELL". It stays cold-cool and then gets hot all of a sudden. If you catch some true spring or autumn weather you are lucky!

Madrid City

The Prado Museum, Reina Sofia Modern Art Museum, and Thyssen-Bornemisza private collection. Royal Palace, Bull Ring, Retiro Park, Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, Teatro Royal Opera House, as well as boutique and department store shopping throughout the city.

Bars, restaurants, tapas, music and people watching whichever way you step! Want something different, step in another direction...

"Wonderful Experience!"

We loved our time in this roof top apartment. The views were spectacular. The location was very good, as easy access to Prado & other museums in one direction, and the palace in the other. Would be lovely to return. The stairs were a challenge for old knees but I knew that so just took things slowly.

"Nice little apartment in vibrant neighbourhood, great base from which to explore the city."

The flat is small but clean and comfortable, very peaceful and lovely views over the rooftops - a restful place to come back to at the end of the day (or even in the middle of the day when the feet we… More

"Disappointing"

My partner and I spent 6 nights in Old-town Roof Top Nest (14th-20th March 2013) and can confirm the apartment is clean, tidy and has great rooftop views. It's very well located, being just minut… More

Thank you for your feedback and business. My apologies for all disappointment. Minor maintenance will be attended to. Regarding the missing/broken blinds, they were taken by the windstorm just before check-in and I was unaware of the damage. Had I known earlier I would have replaced/repaired them before the end of the stay. Best regards and happy travels!

"Quiet, cool and comfortable"

Arriving in Madrid after a long and delayed flight from Johannesburg we were pretty exhausted when we arrived on the doorstep of the Roof Top Nest. Tom had sent his helper to meet us and in no time at all he carried our luggage up to the apartment. It was a very hot day and we were delighted to find some ice cold water and plenty of ice in the refrigerator.

The apartment is well equipped and unbelievably quiet and cool. The views over the Madrid roof tops are enchanting. The five flights of stairs are not nearly as daunting as one would imagine and we found the peaks into the central courtyard quite fascinating. The apartment is very centrally located and within walking distance of most museums, a number of metro stations and many small little restaurants. We could not have wished for a more comfortable place to stay.

"Cosy Roof Top Getaway"

I had a very pleasant stayed in the apartment for 2 weeks at the start of June.
I found Thomas the owner more than helpful from the moment I booked the apartment. He was away on my arrived but had organized someone to meet me. I was very impressed as he carried my luggage up the 5 flights of stairs.
The apartment is well equipped with all I need for my 2 weeks. I was able to cook most meals, a great money saver! It is only a 10 minute walk from the train station, metro is also very close. It is close to shops and a supermarket just down the road. I had no problem walking to most places of interest.
Great location, great little flat, thanks Thomas

"Cosy little rooftop apartment in Madrid"

From the outset Tom who manages the place was amazing! Hints, tips, lightning fast responses and an all out attempt to make the arrival and visit to Madrid painless and rewarding.

Once we arrived Tom was away with a group so he had his friend meet us there instead and while our Spanish was terrible we got into the apartment easily enough.

As per the website the apartment is by no means large but accommodated my wife and I snugly with everything we needed. We stayed here for a week and enjoyed ourselves immensely with local markets just up the road (literally up the street), supermarket nearby and transport at the bottom of the street. The apartment is also within walking distance to parks, shopping and we ended up walking everywhere in Madrid.

I would highly reccommend the apartment for it's price and the service offered by Tom.

"Cozy, high-value apartment with great location"

I was traveling with my girlfriend and a friend and we comfortably fit in Thomas' cozy one bedroom apartment. The apartment had everything we needed, including: wifi, clean beds, a compact kitchen and terrific views of the surrounding area. The location was ideal with easy walking access to parks, museums and Madrid's downtown. There were also some great restaurants and bars immediately nearby. Thomas was a great host and met us right near the local metro station to hand off the keys, provide advice and even lug our bags up the five flights of stairs. It should be noted that the apartment is small and simple, but if you plan on spending the bulk of your trip exploring the beautiful city of Madrid, then the value of this apartment is unbeatable.
