Home description
A warm welcome awaits you at Maison Baylot, a Gascon honey-stone 'L' shaped farmhouse typical of the area, sympathetically restored, with a wealth of exposed stone walls and wooden beams inside. Set in the quiet of a hamlet, you could spend many a day trawling the many local markets and caves (wine sellers) for produce to dine on in the idyllic setting of the covered summer eating area by the pool....
The local area is lovely for walking and cycling, and for the more adventurous hiking and skiing in the mountains, or a trip to Spain, or surfing on the Atlantic beaches is easily done in a day, plus there are aerial tree walks, white water rafting, grotto's, zoos and aquaria all in easy reach.

The Midi-Pyrenees / Hautes-Pyrenees region
In the South of the Midi Pyrenees area of Southern France, just north of the Pyrenean mountain chain, the Madiran area enjoys a micro climate offering over 2,400 hours of sunshine per year, the same as that on the Cote d'Azur. As you get off the plane, the warmth envelopes you and welcomes you to your holiday.
The area is rich in history, with fabulous bastide towns such as Auch (famed for its connection with Gascony's most famous son, D'Artagnan), the historic pilgrimage town of Lourdes, the oldest golf course in France (started by English soldiers after Waterloo) at Pau, Resistance museum at Castelnau Magnoac, and local connections with such names as Foch and Nay..
It is also one of the foremost parts of France for Rugby, and for equestrian activities, in particular the Haras in Tarbes, which hold regular open days and fêtes, and for the more active there are the mountains with their own brand of excitement!
Madiran area
Attractive little Madiran village, just 4km away, is the centre of the Madiran wine growing area, and has its own wine museum (tastings and history), and one gournet and one bistro restaurant, a small grocers and a good bakery. All around the area, wine producers offer 'degustations' - wine tastings, and you can buy your wine direct, (the nearest holds weekly family days) and farmers offer local delicacies such as foie gras, saussicons, and cheeses straight from the farm. Local fêtes, nightmarkets, flea markets and farmers markets are all worth a visit or two, both for the local colour and for the local produce.
Slightly further afield is the town of Marciac, about 20 minutes drive, with a large leisure lake, and an annual jazz festival, plus other musical soirées throughout the summer months. Closer by, there are tennis courts, equitation centres, and for those who prefer to practice gourmandise, restaurants and cafés offering meals from 10 euros per head including wine..... Come and enjoy!
