Le Prielle is situated in the midst of the Madiran vineyards on the borders of the Gers, Pyrenees Atlantique & Haute Pyrenees in the heart of Gascony close to the Pyrenees mountains. The accommodation comprises four beautifully restored Gites which have been created from a renovated barn, in the grounds of an old Chateau, dating from 1745. 2 gites - Le Chai & La Grange can be let as 1 unit (2 gites combined) leaving 2 individual gites, or they can be let as 4 individual gites. An ideal holiday location for lovers of beautiful countryside, good food, fine wine and a more relaxed pace of life. Space and tranquility, an ideal place to recharge your batteries whilst surrounded by beautiful views of the mountains, in the heart of the Gascon countryside. The accommodation is situated within a private courtyard, with a separate parking area. The large swimming pool comprises a paddling pool (25msq) with a depth of 40cm waterfalling into a large pool (75msq) with a shallow end of 1m and a deep end of 2m.

The Midi-Pyrenees / Hautes-Pyrenees region
Close to the market towns of Plaisance du Gers, Vic en Bigorre, Maubourguet and Aire sur l'Adour visitors are spoilt for choice when looking for quality regional produce. The areas around Madiran include the wine growing region of St Mont, Juracon and the Bearn. In addition, within easy reach, to the north is the Armagnac region and some of the most charming towns in South West France. Local Facilities: 3km to nearest village - MADIRAN - where there is a Boulangerie, Epicerie, Wine Shop & Tasting, Bar with Pizza Take Outs, Public Pool & Tennis Court.
Madiran area
Wine tasting, a tour of some of the local Chateaux, an introduction & a chance to buy from the producers direct - plus guides/translators & drivers can all be arranged - please just ask. Mini-golf, fishing, water-skiing, camel rides & horse riding are all available locally. In the mountaiins you can tree climb, go rafting, rock climbing, skiing, hiking & walking. The historic town of Lourdes, is 45 mins. away. Visitors can worship and visit the cave where Bernadette had her vision. Fetes - We list a few of the local fetes below; which we thoroughly recommend. Madiran - 14/15 August - Fete du Vin - where all local producers offer free tasting of thier wines & foods. Music & meals available over a period of 4 days. November - Portes ouverts - where all producers open their Chais for tasting & purchasing prior to Christmas. Marciac - International Jazz festival - 2 weeks of music, stalls & food from around the world. Plaisance du Gers - July - huge street fete, including course landaise. Maubourguet - August - huge street fete over 4 days including bull fighting & course landaise.

Upstairs - Bedroom - Double, Bedroom 2 is 25msq & has a bunkbed, 2 singles & plenty of space for an additional bed if required. Bathroom with bath, shower, sink & toilet.
Please note these Gites are very "roomy" & we try not to squash extra beds in - there really is plenty of space!
Notes on accommodation Electric central heating. Le Pigionaire has a lag buring stove & is ideal for both summer & winter holidasy. An excellent holiday home for children - the Gites are Child friendly, a cot, pram, carry cot and a high chair & plenty of toys are available on request. A Satellite television, DVD & Video machine & a selection of both English & French DVDs & Videos are available. Mini Bar games available - pool, table football, air hockey. Table tennis & badminton, plus a Rugby post - for budding players of all ages An adjoining door enables 2 of the gites to be let as either 2 separate units or 1 large unit sleeping 10+ people. Skiing Excellent skiing, for all levels, is available at Bareges & La Mongie 60km. Especially good nursery areas & clubs are available for small children.
Special interest holidays Guided visits of the local Chateau's & Vineyards provided by the owners, with wine tasting at each location (driver provided!). Gourmet meals at local restruarants - Le Prieurie, Madiran village, wonderful cep omlettes at Le Relais d'Aydie and fantastic duck at La Chaumierie de Bidouze.
Also available by arrangement, in house gourmet meals cooked for you by a Marciac chef - an excellent way to celebrate special occassions - 40th & 50th birthdays, anniversaries, and family parties for New Year & Christmas are all catered for.
Painting, drawing holidays are available with an English speaking Artist. Minimum group number of 5+ people required, 5 days tuition. Please enquire.

We spent a wonderfully relaxing holiday, with the genial Appleby family, in October. With plenty of fine food & wonderful wine to celebrate a family 40th birthday - so all ages were there & were well catered for. I even took my shirt off (a rare sight indeed) and relaxed pottering about in their vegetable patch, which they were more than happy for me to do! There is plenty of space & tranquillity, for large groups such as ours, for everyone to find their own peaceful space & truly relax. A great holiday & we have booked a return this year. We had the most wonderful stay at La Prielle. It was easy for the family to feel very much at home there, plenty of space for the kids to run freely & a fantastic pool, which the photos don't do justice to. We have rebooked already. Mr & Mrs Carter, Sussex.
After our visit (May 2007) we can confirm that this is a perfect place to stay if you are looking for a spot to relax either with or without a family. Exactly as described, the Gite was comfortable and well fitted out and the environment altogether peaceful. Simon & Paulette are superb hosts with an excellent knowledge of local foods and wines and have plenty of helpful advice if you are new to the area around Madiran. The Applebys have done a remarkable renovation at Le Prielle, turning an 18th century ruin into charming and spacious accommodations with all the amenities you’d need for a pleasant stay. Paulette and Simon were superb hosts, and were an excellent resource on the area. Don’t miss the pool and the spectacular view. I’m looking forward to a return visit. La Prielle is in an idyllic location amongst the vineyards. The Appleby family are terrific hosts and ensured we had a splendid week. Our city children were delighted and amazed to be collecting eggs, feeding rabbits, catching frogs and visiting new-born goats in the neighbouring farm – leaving their parents free to fully test the health benefits of the local Madiran wine. Le Prielle was everything and more for a peaceful and relaxing holiday. All home comforts available and we were well looked after by the Appleby's including an informative wine tour, followed by lunch in a local restaurant; which we'd never have found on our own! Very spacious accommodation, with only the sounds of the birds (and the frogs! ). Fabulous views of the Pyrenees, being only 1.5 hours drive away we were able to do some great walking. We had a wonderfully relaxing and peaceful holiday in late June/early July 2007 at Le Prielle. The gite was perfect for our needs and well-equipped for the our little, 4-year old son with lots of toys provided and a wonderful swimming pool for him to splash around in.
