The property can be reached by with lift or stairs and inside boasts contemporary air-conditioned accommodation with a stunning open plan living room furnished with a comfortable L-shaped sofa and benefitting from a flat screen SAT TV and WiFi access. A lake view dining area for up to 6 is situated by the glass sliding doors and a sleek high gloss fully fitted kitchen provides all the desired appliances including an electric hob oven, toaster, coffee machine, kettle and microwave.

The Lombardy / Varese/Lake Maggiore region

Lake Maggiore is 54 km long, with a coastline of over 150km and at its widest is 12 km. Like all the other Northern Italian lakes it is a deep glacial basin fed by rivers; Verzasca, Giona, and Cannobino flow into the lake. Its major outlet is the Ticino which, in turn, joins the river Po just south-east of Pavia.

Piedmont and Lombardy are two major regions surrounding the Lake but the most northerly section of Lake Maggiore extends a dozen kilometres into Switzerland, the lowest point above sea-level in Switzerland.

The climate as with all these protected lakes is mild in both summer and winter, producing lush vegetation, with beautifully planted gardens in wonderful villas growing rare and exotic plants. Well-known gardens include those of the Isola Madre, Isola Bella and the Isole di Brissago, that of the Villa Taranto in Verbania, and the Alpinia botanical garden above Stresa. These lakes are almost like a lost world. They also have their monsters apparently!

The Maccagno area

Maccagno is perfect for cycling, swimming, hiking, and also for water sports, with the La Darsena club providing sailing, wind surfing and kite surfing lessons and equipment hire.

The pretty and vibrant resort town of Luino is situated just a 3 minute’s drive away from the residence and here guests can enjoy a wide variety of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars. The charming marina leads to a train station and frequent ferry service and access to the nearby tourist attractions is very good.

Fabulous day excursions from Lake Maggiore include the fashionable city of Milan and the Swiss Ski resort of San Bernardino. For guests wanting a vibrant nightlife the cosmopolitan Swiss city of Lugano is just a 40 minutes drive away and boasts fine restaurants, stylish bars, designer shops, casinos and clubs.

This beautiful resort town enjoys a lovely lakefront position along the northerly eastern shore of Lake Maggiore and retains an ancient and noble history, once being known as a skilled craft and fishing village under the Mandelli Counts, before being granted freedom to become a free miniature state with its own mint for several centuries before the powerful Borromeo family took control.

Today its colourful past can be seen with the lower part of Maccagno noticeably more ancient then the modern upper part of the town, with medieval passageways, noble townhouses, an imperial watch tower and the sanctuary of ‘Madonna della Punta’.

Visitors can enjoy the many pizzerias and fine restaurants, its lakefront promenade which leads to a modern art museum, a forest, play area and beach. For swimmers the Lidos of nearby Locarno and Ascona are recommended. Carnival festivities also feature during the summer months and play up to the town’s famous culinary expertise with the famous ‘Rice and Sausage’ festival.

A frequent ferry service also operates from the town taking visitors to the beautiful towns of Cannobio, Stresa and to the incredible and elegant gardens found on the Bromero Islands.
